Some authors have trouble writing anti-heros, but Douglas Hulick does a very good job with Drothe (although did anyone else have the Kvothe/Drothe confusion? I read The Wise Man's Fear just before Among Thieves: A Tale of the Kin). I'd heard a little about this book from reading the Wyrdsmith's blog (of which the author is a part) and I was intrigued, and then I read a few good reviews, so I was chuffed to receive an ARC from LibraryThing. The pacing is spot-on here, with hardly a wasted action.

I spent much of the book uncertain as to whether it deserved four or five stars (a good problem to have), but it came together so well in the end that it solidified the higher score. Good story, great protagonist, nice flow, and it went down several paths I didn't see coming. Excellent book.
