Take the sword-and-sorcery of Robert E. Howard and paint it liberally with the exotic colors of "A Thousand and One Nights," and perhaps a dash of Rafael Sabatini. This will give you an approximation of what to expect from "The Desert of Souls."

I thought the beginning of the Desert of Souls was pretty slow and had trouble really getting into it. Then, it happened and around 20% of the book I became really taken by the events and the characters. I could not put it down at the end. Great Arabian fantasy adventure. I would not necessarily call it sword & sorcery because I think some of the genre tropes are missing but a very enjoyable novel all the same. I will follow the adventures of Asim and Dabir for sure.
