Shelves: modern-horror

This is a solid haunted house novel with some cool twists on the traditions. It starts out as a slower, character-based tale, but the pace, and the gore, picks up at the two-thirds mark. The characters are well-drawn (mostly), and the concept is nifty, but the female characters get short shrift and the ending is way too drawn out.

This was a fast and fun 4.5 star read for me. While having mixed reviews, I will say that it is entertaining and sometimes creepy and EXACTLY what you need while trying to escape the covid pandemic. Full review to come soon - but definitely give this a go!

I don’t hate it, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I will, but I couldn’t stop reading either.

It’s like a merge of all American horror movie stereotypes you can think of, with an ending that doesn’t answer the questions raised, in fact I got more confused as to what is happening and why the more I read through the last chapters.

Definitely a book written with a movie or a TV series in mind.

I can't tell how I feel about this. The first half, little over the first half was pretty great. I really felt for most of the characters but then the second half was just to out of character.

Liked: The characters for the most part. I was always routing for my fellow Midwesterner.

Liked: the details, it didn't bore me or feel bogged down. It sucked me into the story.

Dislike: Separating? Uhhhhhm.... How could they ALL have been that dumb? That killed it for me.
