“Hush, Hush” is a young adult, fantasy romance written by Becca Fitzpatrick. This is the first book Fitzpatrick wrote and it landed her a spot as a New York Times Bestseller. Congrats to the author for her amazing accomplishment. And there are four books in this series so the saga will continue. The story follows a young high school girl named Nora Grey who is being raised by her mother after her father was murdered. The mother isn’t around much and doesn’t seem to have to active of a role in Nora’s life. She meets a mysterious and overly good looking boy in her biology class named Patch. She instantly has a push pull connection with him, meaning that she wants him but she tries not to. She also encounters a few other mysterious characters in what feels like a short period of time. The mystery is trying to find out who is trying to kill her and who can she trust out of all her new acquaintances.
The storyline is filled with a lot of stalking, random acts or hallucinations of violence and a lot of teenage hormones. There are fallen angels, nephilim bloodlines, swooning teenage girls and adults that tend not to be as responsible as they should be. The characters are not as desirable as I would have liked them to be although Patch and Nora’s best friend; Vee do have some very entertaining dialogue at times. I also thought that the character Dabria and the major scenes with that character felt kind of thrown in there as an addition to thicken the plot but it didn’t add substance for me. Elliot and Jules were two other characters that I felt were under developed. As a side note, something I hope I see from more authors is a decline in what seems to be instant love connections and unhealthy relationships.

It does sound like I completely hated the book and in a way I did feel a little disappointed because I love a good fallen angel or angel story. I really did want to love it because I heard some rave reviews, which means that there is a healthy amount of fans but overall I would just say it was okay. However I have to keep in mind that this book is for teenagers or young adults and although it didn’t meet my criteria for being a top read it may open up the imagination for younger readers. There are two good factors about this book and that is that the gist of the plot and the beginning. The idea of the storyline I thought was good but the delivery was lacking in quite a few parts but still I do like where the author was going with it. One part that I found that did capture my interest was the prologue which described a sort of flashback to Patch’s past. That part was brilliantly executed.
I would recommend this book to fans of Lauren Kate or L.A. Weatherly due to their angel series.

[Edit: I previously gave this 2.5 stars, but, remembering Delirium, which I gave 2 stars, I now rate this book 1.5 stars]. Because I didn't really hate it like I should have. I'm just one big contradictory person, because whenever I've set out to love or hate a book, I usually end up feeling the opposite. I knew from the start of reading this book that I wasn't going to love it, but in the middle of it, I was just laughing at the ridiculous-ness of it all. I've come to expect that this was a YA Paranormal book. It does feature a fallen angel. But three quarters of the book, it mainly felt like a teen psychological thriller. If that even exists. I guess, because I read The Mortal Instruments series, that I expected a lot of kick-ass fight scenes. There was, however, the slightly intriguing mystery (which I like) of who could want Nora dead. Apparently, almost all of the characters wanted her dead (view spoiler).

So it's not really more of a paranormal book, I guess, but a YA romance with paranormal elements. The romance, though, is the one that gave me the most kicks. Here's a straight A student, who has a dangerous attraction to a guy who could possibly be her stalker (view spoiler). Nora knows absolutely zilch about this person, except that he's hot. So it's okay that he's a possible stalker and that he may have assaulted your best friend, because you have 'gut instincts' into the goodness of his heart, and besides, he's hot. Is it okay that in the middle of arguing about his dubious identity, you suddenly have the overwhelming urge to kiss him? Wtf? (I actually enjoyed hating this scene, though). It's just a story of pure, basic lust, passing off as romance . Blrugh. But what the heck, at least I got a kick out of it.

I could write a lot of paragraphs describing the mind-fuckeries in this book and waste another hour, or I could just end this review with a not-so-short message:

Would I recommend you to buy this? No. (So really, Borj, god why'd you have to buy this?!) Instead do what I did, and borrow from a friend. *Cackles*

Don't let mediocre authors get so much profit from a not-well written story. It was obviously written in such a way, that you need a sequel, to get the cash flowin, so.... Shame on authors and publishers who milk it.

4.5 Stars *for Patch* lol

I have been wanting to read this book ever since i saw all of my 'crazy for YA and paranormal' friend's reviews. I just started yesterday and i could not put it down until i finished it right now, and i was like:
....Why cant I have a Patch :((((

And than... WAIT! i can start the second book and have me some more Patch like... NOW!!

Another of those books that remind me of Twilight except it has something to do with fallen angels. It also has a nice over that tricks people into buying it. Like my friend. She's the impulse kind of buyer and buys those with nice covers. I do too but not as often as her so I have a less tendency to buy books like these. She is not as fortunate but then again she's a sucker for sappy love stories. If I am to sum it up, it's like a mix of Fallen and Twilight. That's about it. ...more

Amazing book! I can't explain how much I liked it. But there were some parts when I was like "Whaaa?" and "How?" but over all it was a great book. Kept me entertained and wanting more! I really like Patch and fell in love with him! I think I read this book to fast though but eh, must read the next one! The author did a good job, but I didn't see must descriptions and all that. And every time it ended a chapter it didn't really feel like it did, like there's need to be more. Then the next chapter ...more
