From the Bookshelf of Classics Without All the Class…

I hate to give such a small amount of credit for the work of literature. Moreover it is one of the most well-known literary works. It gives me the idea of how dumb and senseless you think I am. It's like I don't get the meaning out of it while most people reference this as truly meaningful and one of the greatest books they've ever read.

I hate to give such a small amount of credit for the work of literature. Moreover it is one of the most well-known literary works. It gives me the idea of how dumb and senseless you think I am. It's like I don't get the meaning out of it while most people reference this as truly meaningful and one of the greatest books they've ever read.

This book is fantastic actually. Rare yet fantastic. It is meaningful indeed pertaining to its message and Kafka's exquisite and metaphorical or metaphorically exquisite style of writing. I find dozens of moral out of this book which I won't elaborate here. But there is one particular thing, the moral that I mostly concern, it is 'the act of nurturing' which the reader will hardly find in this book. It is pretty odd of me to attain that one moral as the most powerful message for me personally, since it is the contrary of what Kafka's writing is about. That's what I call 'the art of finding the existence out of the nothingness' (Rachmidwiati, 2013). As Gregor metamorphoses beastly into a filthy gigantic insect, the family of which he once supports sees him in disgust. They don't want to nurture him as he is thought to be nothing more than just a useless bug. From my point of view, the moral of that is so strong which resembles of how some people abandon their either parents (and send them off to the old folks home as their perfect way out so that they don't have to "get their hands dirty") or other family members once they are old, (something terrible happens that makes them) paralyze, (something terrible happens that makes them) cripple and they are thought to be useless and no good for them. Family is not a wheel of fortune. It doesn't come with the 'take it or leave it' options. They are what you got, you are what they got. You are destined by blood to care for one another and that is it. The absence of 'the act of nurturing' in Samsa's family will be reflected back to whom they do things as I described above.

The whole Gregor's-metamorphosis-event is kind of terrified me. Gregor turns into a gigantic insect as he wakes u pin the one fine morning of which was thought to be another regular morning. The 'what if' phrase keeps jumping and bouncing in my head. It's not the 'what if things happened the other way' but the 'what if a certain thing WILL happen to me in the future'. What if. What if something terrible happens to me in a blink of an eye. The most extreme providence could happen in a blink of one's eye. The whole idea of it makes me aware that life's rough and you can't actually and precisely predict what will happen to you in the next 5 minutes. You have no idea that one day your life will somehow be turned upside-down though I can assure myself that I can not transform into a gigantic insect and that's far from my concern of what makes me terrified. Or can I?

See? Life is full of questions and uncertainties. It sometimes (if not most of the time) perplexing, for the questions you get will never succeed to satisfy and please you in many ways.

Oh, I almost forgot (no, I lied), the 2 stars for me is way beyond 'it was OK'. I like the idea behind the book, I adore and praise the moral which is very strong, but I don't enjoy reading it. Then I must say, I don't like reading this. There, I said it. The family is just absurd and abnormal. They are mental but in other way they have no psychology issue, besides Grete, probably. Too many misunderstanding happens which I think that the family, if it is an egg, is awfully cracked yet it is again-polished by the end of the chapter though you can still see the crack vaguely out of it. Not to mention the ending. I don't like the ending. The one that mentions Grete, not the Gregor's ending. There, I can show how much I dislike it by writing with a simple form of sentence, which means, I-don't-like-it.

Pardon me, an amateur literature reader, if you find this review a bit (or very) incoherent and doesn't correspond to how this literary work should have been interpreted. That's the great idea of book though. You can get different idea and perspective with others out of the same exact number of words you read.
