I wasn't even aware that Lewis had written a novel (and was quite surprised to find that it was written about a pre-Christian era!). As is true with pretty much every other C.S. Lewis book I've read (I really haven't read all that many), I had to take this one slowly. Even though this is a novel, it's not exactly light reading -- especially toward the end when the symbolism gets deep. (I am pretty sure this is where Lewis's Christianity comes through, though.)

I generally am not a big fan of C.S Lewis' Discourse-style narrative. From the beginning, you know this story is not "a story" but a medium for Lewis to express his ideas. But he does so beutifully.
