Fall 2012: This book was just okay. I never felt that emotionally invested in the characters, and the story just barely kept my interest. It wasn't a bad book, but it seems kind of forgettable. I did like a lot of the author's descriptive passages—especially those about nature. I also really like Jim's grandparents. They were such neighborly, kind, and thoroughly good people. And I do admire Antonia's resilient spirit. She is an embodiment of the belief that although life is hard, it is worth it

2.5 stars. Barely rounded it to a 3 star. I will say this, if it wasn't for the book club, I wouldn't have read this. I read the 1st book in the series and gave it a 2 stars. That said, I will not read any more books, novellas, from this author. I cannot get into her style or obsessions.
