I was hoping for a good swashbuckler, but got something a little less than that. Good plot and the Scarlet Pimpernel himself is very likable (if only under every fop there was a heroic counter-revolutionary to save the day when things get out of hand). Unfortunately, the main character of the story is the Pimpernel's wife, who's supposed to have one of the greatest intellects in France; given how shocked she was by every obvious plot 'twist,' I wondered how that could be.

Very readable classic! It reminded me of The Count of Monte Cristo -- the main character is in disguise a lot and seems to be able to easily wiggle out of every scrape he's in -- but unlike Monte Cristo, this one's not a brick. ;-) I thought the writing was great and the characters memorable.

Sink me my dear! It's a jolly good read. Bring you sword and your disguise and prepared to enjoy your time with this one.
