Spoileralert. Ok, I finished this story today, and it's basically a "fish tale".
Summary: "Well, Today I cought an 18 foot long swordfish, but the sharks ate' em. Oh well."
The story telling is a bit dry and the level of detail is a bit unnessesary. "I cought a big fish, I feel sad for the fish, the fish is my brother, but I have to eat him anyway. I am so sorry fish. Can you ever forgive me?"
To top it all off it is difficult to distiguish Santiago's internal monologue with the narriator's voic ...more

I've been interested to read this for a long time. My English professor asked me to read it when I was in 5th grade, but just could not get into it. My professor asked me what I thought and I pretended that I read it and who knows what comments I made. Ever since then I feel guilty when I see the book, especially knowing how short it is. Summary: Old guy goes looking for fish after a bit of a long time of not catching any fish. Gets a little bit more and a little bit less than he bargained for.
Things I liked:
Nice narrative, you found things out as stuff happened rather than being told how things were.
Things I thought could be improved:

It was full of unnecessary pride but good to have an idea of what "having balls" means.
