Janie is a character you wont easily forget. She is genuine and earnest and she lives within a compassionate tale that "celebrates rather than moralizes" (Henry Gates) life's events and people's behavior and decisions. The dialog in this novel was so enjoyable to read. A wonderful story of a woman finding herself and love through the ups and downs of life. Hurston is a great writer. I found the change of voices interesting and helped make this novel great. My favorite quote is
"...you got to go there to know there. Yo' papa and yo' mama and nobody else can't

go tuh God, and they got tuh find out about livin' fuh theyselves." ...more
