What Members Thought

Pynchon's long introduction is the closest we get to an autobiography or interview from him, and it doesn't disappoint. I would say it's required reading for people who write or care about writing.
As he notes, some of these stories are not very good (namely, 'The Small Rain' and 'Under the Rose'), but I liked 'Low-Lands', 'Entropy' and 'The Secret Integration'.

I give this book three stars for three reasons. Ain't symmetry grand?
1. The introduction. One of the few glimpses into the true and raw machinations of Pynchon's mind. Unless his "estate" releases letters and other musing upon the inevitable, this is the most we'll have for awhile.
2. Under The Rose. Sure, he polished it up for V. It definitely works better and is a lot more clever in its chapter form. It's nice though to see such brilliance taking form.
