Miracle Creek is a courtroom drama, "whodunnit" mystery... but it is also so much more than that. In addition, it has family drama and suspense, and touches on subjects of immigration, infertility, arson, special needs children, HBOT therapy, and the value of life.
Angie Kim's writing is very intriguing and compulsive, and she does a wonderful job of tying together all the characters. The story is told from seven different characters points of view, yet I never felt confused by the chan ...more

I don’t really read courtroom dramas (with the exception of The Bonfire of the Vanities being one of my all time favorite books), but I really enjoyed Miracle Creek by Angie Kim. This engaging slow-burn of a novel about a Korean immigrant family and those in their orbit twists around to point the finger at a different character with every chapter, convincingly making the case that just about everyone involved with the hyperbaric chamber in Miracle Creek, VA - and its deadly explosion - at best h

This book will throw many ugly truths in your face. Miracle Creek is a story about the struggle for one Korean family to make their dreams come true in America for their only child, Mary. From their time as a family apart, Pak the goose father and Young alone with Mary in America, to a family stuffed together under one roof, more divided than ever. And once Pak starts a business called Miracle Submarine: an experimental oxygen treatment "submarine." But after a devastating explosion, a dramatic

If you are a fan of courtroom dramas, multiple perspectives, and a who/why did someone do it — then this is for you! I did enjoy this book, but I found it a little more slow moving than I would have liked, there was a lot to unpack in each chapter where I felt I had to set it down in order to gain all the points she was trying to make.
The part I loved the most was the interweaving of all the plot points (Korean culture, immigration, motherhood, autism, the court system). I also loved that th ...more

This is an impressive debut that I'll be thinking about for a long time. It deals with the messy coincidences of life, mistakes we make as human beings, family, parenthood, children with special needs, and the journey of youth and immigration. It hit me in lots of intense feelings and sometimes those were heavy to think about. It is well worth the praise and hype it's getting. Just know that it has moments of great intensity. I can't wait to read the next book by Angie Kim.

When I read the first chapter, I thought well this seems pretty cut and dry. How is this going to develop over 300+ pages. I was so wrong. I absolutely loved this book! It was told over multiple perspectives and those types of books are some of my favorites. Each person’s story somehow weaves together with another character that you wouldn’t expect. It takes the story to another level when you add in the family running this oxygen chamber is an immigrant family. Going into their background was s

I enjoyed this book, trying to unravel the mystery, but the medical practice that the family was involved in confused the hell out of me and I didn't feel like it was very integral to the story. If the author had taken the same mysterious concepts and applied them to a more realistic, common medical practice, I think I would've enjoyed this story a lot more.
