You may call me a sap. This was a great read, and I am really happy to have decided to read it. I read it in One Day, could not put it down. Nicholls tells the story of two people who fell in love the first time they really meet, in their last night as University students. Using this one day, July 15th, he takes us through a 20 year span of their lives. It is funny, it is clever, it is sad, but its a beautiful love story. I will miss the characters.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the clever way the author spanned 20yrs by only setting the book on one day each year. I felt I got to know the characters and while at times I felt frustrated with them and at other times liked them, they were always human and believable.
They were also consistent to the end. Some of my favourite lines came from Emma. "...my brain was gone soft like something left at the back of the fridge." I also liked the description of Dexter as "not vain, but at times did ...more

Started out as something I loved and gradually declined into predictable garbage...:/ possibly a bit harsh but I'll review properly soon, once I've digested the story.

I have just finished this and I really am not sure what to make of the ending. I loved the first three quarters of the book, i thought it was so clever and well done. I laughed out loud quite a few times.
But I am now thinking, did I miss the whole point of the book? What was the point of going through the twenty years and then end the book in this manner. I'm totally bummed out now. ...more
