An excellent description of the war.
One experiences the world war first-hand through the series of 5 books. The pangs of separation between the lovers is described very succinctly too. And yet, he starts disinterestedly with, 'This was like a game of bridge,in which you said things instead of playing cards.'
Although it's not an autobiography, it seems reminiscent of Hemingways own experiences at war, except that he got the girl this time. Or did he? (view spoiler) ...more
