I don't think there is anyone in existence who hasn't seen this film so in a way it does taint your experience of the book. Still remains a fairly creepy read though. The scenes with Regan are incredibly well written and you really can't call yourself a fan of horror until you've read this book! ...more

Watched the film when I was 13 and it didn't scare me then. Have been wanting to read the book for years but just kept putting it off. Maybe I just don't scare easily but I found the book rather dull at times and not at all creepy. ...more

Father Damien Karras, a Jesuit priest, is called in. Is it possible that a demonic force is preset in the child? Exorcism is the only answer...

Possession freaks me out, so I put off reading this book because I thought it would terrify me. I was way off. The story is dragged out and dull. Eventually I got to parts that grossed me out, but I was never scared. Not even a little bit.

The mother is perhaps the worst character ever. She’s a caricature who has absolutely no appropriate reactions to anythin

One of my favourite books because it was one that I had to hide away and read for fear that my mother would think I was Satanic if she found it! totally worth it though- am looking for an original printing
