A year has passed, Mo, Meggie, Resa, Elinor and Darius all live together in Elinor's house. But Meggie can't stop thinking of Inkheart. She learned all she could from her mother, wrote down all stories Resa could tell her from Inkworld. Meggie just can't get enough.

Meanwhile, Dustfinger finds another Silvertongue, one that says he can read Dustfinger back into Inkheart. And when Dustfinger goes back to Inkheart, Farid was left behind. The new Silvertongue made sure of that.

Farid seeks out Meggie, knowing she can help. Like her father, she can read characters out of books. Farid asks Meggie to read him into Inkheart and she believes this may be her chance to experience Inkworld for herself.

I first read Inkheart in 2009 so it took me awhile to get around to the second book. I loved Inkheart. It's one of my favorite books and Inkspell has become another favorite.

The second book actually takes place in Inkheart, which is quite interesting. Meggie gets to experience both the good and bad of Inkworld, although it seems the bad happens an awful lot. But Meggie can't seem to get enough of Inkworld.

And it is a enchanting world. It's easy to understand why one might want to go there. It's a beautiful and dangerous world, a place Meggie has romanticized about for a long time.

One of the things that made me love Inkheart was the idea of reading characters out of a book - what would it be like to read your favorite character out of a book and be able to talk with them? Inkspell has a similar idea, but instead it is reading yourself into a book and being able to experience its world, its characters, its things that are unique only to that world inside a book.

Like Inkheart, Inkspell has a great story. It's interesting to see how people from our world and a book world interact. There is plenty of action and wondering what will happen next. And I do love the characters like Meggie, Dustfinger, Mo, Farid, Resa, etc.

I don't want to spoil anything, but what happened near the ending really had my eyes tearing up. I was just so sad.

Inkspell is a great book. I love it just as much as I love Inkheart and I hope to revisit Inkworld soon, whenever I read Inkdeath. ...more

I have to admit that I didn't jump out and read this because I didn't think Inkheart was all that great. But, I wanted to know how the story ended. So, I finally picked this one up. I'm very glad that I did. The story was much richer than the first book. It was written better with the characters coming to life more. Maybe it's because we finally get a look at the world that everybody was willing to go to such lengths for. It's almost like the author was able to write about a fantasy world better ...more

I love this book. Its characters are well written, the ideas that the book presents are interesting, and the imagery is wonderful. It is a very satisfying book.

Shelves: own, 2009, middle-grade

It took me a while to finish this one, but it was well worth it. The twist at the end totally got me too. So sad. Dustfinger is such an amazing character.
