For a novella, I usually prefer the couple to have know each other previously for the story to work better in the shorter space but in this one they don't...and it still works! Miss Eliza Cade made a foolish mistake when she was younger and pays for it now by not being able to have a Season until her three older sisters are married. She unintentionally meets the notorious rake, Harry Wright and they both capture each others attention. A bit of time passes and a chance encounter reacquaints them, ...more

I actually read this as part of an anthology, Three Weddings and a Murder, and I can truly say that Tessa Dare only gets better as she continues writing. She remains one of my favorite authors, not only for her turns of phrase in descriptions, but also for her characterizations and witty conversations. If you've never read anything of hers before, you won't be disappointed, and you'll probably find you have a new favorite historical romance author. ...more

Miss Eliza Cade is 18 and is not allowed to be out in society because she made a mistake years ago which embarrassed her and her family. Now, she is watching her sister, Margaret, dance at her engagement party to Sir Roland Farnsworth. Her other sister, Georgie, is allowed to attend. It is so distressing for Eliza and she is absolutely enraged that she cannot join in with the festivities. Thinking herself alone with her sister, Georgie, as they watch and talk about the dancing, she later dis

Very sweet. The idea of using the letters and invitations to jump through time allows Dare to move through the novella without all the extra characters/characterization. Excellent closing chapter.

I had to wait almost 2 months before I had this book in my hot little hands. Apparently, the publisher vastly underestimated the number of people who would want paper copies of this book. Well, duh, Avon - it's a Tessa Dare!

Packed into only 110 pages is the love story of Miss Eliza Cade and Mr. J. Harrison Wright, the title character who seems to be Mr. All Wrong For Her when he and Eliza first meet. But for both characters, what we first see is definitely not all that they are. And meeting spor

Light, fast read. Lots of humor, which I've come to expect from Tessa Dare's books. I really like her heroines. ...more

Could not help loving this novella in which Ms. Dare gives a nod to Jane Austen and fashions a heroine like Elizabeth Bennett and a hero like Mr. Darcy, yet they wait for each other for years as in Persuasion.

Will definitely be re-reading this one.
