I'm so glad I didn't give up on this book. The first time I tried I guess I just wasn't in the right mood, because this time I tried the audio and it was really good. I love the idea of spindle cove and boy does Tessa Dare has a way with witty banter! I can't wait to start the next one!

How is it there's only five stars available? I'd pluck some more from the night skies if I could because this is just made of so much win. The kind that really awesome romances are made of. The kind that would engage your mind and not just yor heart. You know the one. Yup, that's the kind that would make you laugh out loud, swoon and sigh and grin goofily because your heart is just so, so full of love. I still have so much to say but I'm feeling indescribably happy and I'm just bursting with joy

Having read book #2 (A Week to Be Wicked), and liked it, I backed up to read book #1.
This helped quite a bit in explaining who does what in the seaside village of Spindle Cove - the characters are so intertwinted that in book #2, when the action moved away from Minerva and Colin, I was a bit lost in who Kate was, or Thorne, or Diana, or Susanna...definitely a series that benefits from reading in book order.

2.75 to 3 stars
A Night to Surrender has an interesting overarching premise. Susanna Finch is the de facto leader at Spindle Cove, a retreat where young ladies can convalesce. It is known pejoratively as "Spinster Cove", since many women whose marriage prospects are sunk go to the Cove as well. Miss Finch had a horrific past with physicians, so she strives to make Spindle Cove perfect for ladies who are suffering from illnesses, so that they are not subjected to the same horrors and carelessness ...more

Fall in Love with the little village of Spindle Cove! I am reading these completely out of order, but it does not distract too much from the book. This is the first and the steamiest of the series. If you like your historical romance to read like a contemporary book with many steamy passages, I recommend this book for you.

I really enjoyed this book and the introduction to Spindle Cove. The characters are wonderfully introduced and it had a great combination of humor, romance, steam, and story to make this a wonderful series. I am looking forward to the next book and hope it keeps us updated on Bram and Susanna as well. Well done Tessa Dare!
