This is one of those books that you should have read in high school, but never did. Well I finally got around to reading it and I am glad that I did. I picked up the 50th anniversary edition at the library and I found the illustrations to add to the intensity of the book. The ideas that Orwell writes about are very real and I thought it was extremely clever of him to present them in this way.

This book terrifies me. Watching The Manor Farm turn into Animal Farm with its warped politics mirroring Stalin's Soviet Union is so, so disturbing. Using animals to tell the story is brilliant, and the final scene just stays with you. Everyone has read this, so I'm just going to leave it at that.

Much better story as an adult, rather than in high school.
