What a pleasant surprise this one was for me! I was a little nervous about this one living up to the hype since the discovery that it was written by JK Rowling. But, it's a very solid detective/mystery novel. Really interesting main character and I loved the smaller characters as well. The story was fairly well plotted and paced! Although not a perfect book, this one was quite good and I look forward to the next in the series!

I continue to be amazed by JK Rowling's ability to create characters who are completely relateable and multi-dementional, regardless of how many pages that character features in. I really hope that she continues with this series. The mystery was well done and I really never unravelled it before the narrative did. Great story telling!

I tried to be really objective while reading this book. I'm a BIG fan of Rowling's HP series, but didn't care for "A Casual Vacancy" at all. I must say I really liked this book. The story was pretty well fast-paced, the characters (mostly) were well-developed, and I was guessing pretty much up to the end of the book as to "who-dunnit"... I do have a couple of small issues to nit-pick; I thought there was too much narrative description at times. This is a murder mystery, so I don't expect a lot o

I decided to read this one after finding out it was written by J.K Rowling, but also sounds like a book that I would find interesting anyway (unlike A Casual Vacancy which I didn't attempt). I really liked this book overall. It was the first book that I've read in a while where I really felt sucked into the story and compelled to keep reading. I like the characters of Strike and Robin and the fact that they don't have a romantic relationship - I hope it stays that way personally. I get kind of t

A long book but so well written, I didn't mind. The characters were well described and at the end of the book, was really hoping for a sequel so I could find out what happens to them next. The writing was far above the traditional detective story and I have never had to look up so many words while reading a book (even with a decent knowledge of Brit slang) - thank goodness for the Kindle!

I very much enjoyed this mystery. Rowling's writing is engaging, and while the story meanders slightly towards the conclusion, it is a great story with believable characters. I also didn't realize prior to reading this, but apparently I've got a soft spot for old-timey PI stories-- you know, with a frosted glass door, gumshoe in a trench and fedora investigating at night in the rain under a street lamp. Cormoran Strike isn't qute THAT cliched, but is fleshed out in a way that is reminiscent of h

This book was awesome. It kept me on the edge of my chair the entire time. I never could have imagined who the killer turned out to be. Then to get the end and realize that it was written by JK Rowlings. I can't wait to read the next book. ...more
