This was such a nice surprise for me ... I wasn't entirely sure what to expect with this one but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! It's such a readable book, I plowed through it very quickly. It's an easy but compelling read.

I thought that it was an excellent exploration into what its like to be a new immigrant to America, with little money and resources. It gave me a new perspective on how difficult it must be, particularly for children and teenagers as they maneuver through

With quirky Chinese sayings and some humor Girl in Translation is a beautifully written story of life, family and love. Highly r ...more

I was frustrated by the situations presented in this story, and am sadened by the thought that they are likely based in truth. It is easy to believe that modern America is not with child labor or endentured servetude...but Girl Interrupted dispells those comforting beliefs. ...more

Kimberly is about to experience life in the United States for a Chinese immigrant, and unfortunately, it's not going to be easy. Brilliant and hardworking, she is a heroine worth rooting for. It's a quick read and quite enjoyable although the story is one that has been told many times before in fiction. ...more
