And she does it again. This book was even better than I’d hoped! Highly recommend!
Well, I gobbled this one up.
As with Taylor Jenkins Reid’s two most recent novels, this book spends some time examining and critiquing the sleazier parts of Hollywood, in this case focusing on a mid-century crooner with a golden voice and a giant sense of sexual entitlement and utter lack of loyalty.
However, I found this book to be quite different from Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones in that the central characters—the Riva children and to a lesser extent their mother June—have a fundamental goodness ...more

Thank you to Ballantine Books and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy of this book for my honest review.
I was very excited to receive Malibu Rising to read and review. Taylor Jenkins Reid has become one of my favorite authors in the last couple of years. An she did it again!
This novel about the RIva family is set over many decades but centered around the party of the century in the 80's. It is the perfect summer escape book. Highly recommend! ...more

I liked the structure of this book. It was written in a dual timeline with one covering several years ( the 1960s and 70s) and the other just 24 hours (in 1983). It’s a family drama with strong sibling bonds, questionable parenting, and lots of surfing. I enjoyed the 80s references. Less profanity would have been great.
