Why didn't I read this one earlier?? I've had it sitting on my TBR for ages but never picked it up. Well, I wish I had! What a fantastic read - fascinating story, interesting characters and just downright good storytelling! Very readable novel! I highly recommend this one!

What a sensational story! Fergus did a fantastic job giving voice to the heterogeneous group of characters. He brought their personalities to life; they jumped off the page, grabbed me by the hand and yanked me along on their journey. I especially liked the twins, Gretchen, Phemie and bird woman.

I loved this "account" of May Dodd's life as a Native American wife in the plains during the 19th century. While it took me about 150 pages to really get into her story, once I did, I couldn't wait to find out what would happen to her and the other women who became part of the program to marry Native Americans and have their children for purposes of religion and assimilation. A great read, an interesting read, and a topic I would like to explore further.
