What Members Thought
I enjoyed this debut novel . . . some say the writing was not beautiful and flowing but that really didn't bother me very much. The story of these 2 main characters, set decades apart from each other, was moving, sad and tragic. It's difficult for me to comprehend their culture when I've never experienced anything so lonesome and terrifying.

This book was very hard to read sometimes because if its depiction of life for females in Afghanistan, both today and 100 years ago (not much has changed). It took me a while to get into the book and the ending was a bit predictable.
