This book really surprised me ... I didn't read anything about it before picking it up except that I'd heard it was 'good.' Waters' books can be somewhat slow, but I read them for the incredible characterization--the fact that even the characters you are rooting for are a little bit twisted, or cruel, or self-serving or cowardly. And this particular novel was helped along by the incredibly tense, claustrophobic atmosphere that was created.
