I didn't think there was any way a book could follow Slammed and not be in its shadow, but this one did. Just when I thought it would be a typical romance with a misunderstanding, makeup, etc. the book has a huge event thrown in there that I just didn't see coming. I think I teared up every other chapter - not because of sad events, but because of touching events. Often times a follow up book in a series is lacking, especially when the first book is so damn phenomenal you can’t stop thinking about the story, the characters, the conflict/resolution, or stop stalking the author’s website or Facebook page. :) This was not the case for Point of Retreat. Not even close. I was just as blown away by this story, and it had all the drama and tension, but also sweetness and love that Slammed had, but just different. Often times a follow up book in a series is lacking, especially when the first book is so damn phenomenal you can’t stop thinking about the story, the characters, the conflict/resolution, or stop stalking the author’s website or Facebook page. :) This was not the case for Point of Retreat. Not even close. I was just as blown away by this story, and it had all the drama and tension, but also sweetness and love that Slammed had, but just different. I purchased this book maybe 5 seconds after finishing Slammed. I literally couldn’t eat, sleep or shower until I got started. I had to know how everything, and I mean, everything was going to play out!

Told from Will’s POV, I loved being able to see more through his eyes this time, because it gave a whole different side to what the characters were going through. Plus, Will is just so yummy and I love him. One of my favorite book boys. Of all time. And I must mention all the characters again – STILL LOVE THEM – but also love the addition of Kiersten and her mother, Sherry. How Colleen comes up with these fantastic people is beyond me. I wish I knew them. All of them. Even Colleen :). Kiersten is the most awesome kid I’ve ever known – like how I said known? – but for real, I hope my kids are someday as inquisitive and witty and just as fabulous as she is. The suck and the sweet was great – I love the name of this! We did this as kids with my family. Told our best and worst moment of the day, but not sure we had such an awesome name for it. Peak and the pit, perhaps. But I cannot wait to do this with my kids – makes you thankful for the good, for sure.

The love story continues in this book with some serious sexual tension. Talk about frustrating! :) But it’s sweet, romantic and really an inspiring love story, so that makes it worth it. There’s so much tension and drama in this book, and at times I felt like I couldn’t breathe. You might not think that after finishing Slammed. You might think that it’ll be all “butterflies” (nod to the book, there) and roses, but you’ll be dead wrong! My iPad was smoking I was flipping from page to page so fast because I had to know what was going to happen. And I must say, I was happy it all happened the way it did – but shoot, was it intense! Oh, and there’s more slam poetry, which is just as great as in Slammed. So hooray for that!

Much like Slammed you get really emotionally invested into these characters. I laughed and cried and freaked out along side them. I felt completely in a trance when reading this. I never wanted it to end, but it was so damn good, I flew through it. I give this book 5 stars and it is among my most highly recommended series. It’s one of those series where it gives you so much hope, and makes you think about your own life. These kids have gone through more in their lives than you can even hope to avoid, yet they come out stronger, more beautiful people! The story and characters stay with you long after you finish the book, and if you’re anything like me, you CANNOT WAIT for Will’s Story to be released. ...more

After having a tough time getting into Slammed, then finally it consumed me and I was in it for the long haul. I finished Slammed on Thursday night...I found out there was a second book Friday afternoon...I bought it! I sat and I read it within a few hours. I LOVED IT! These characters are some that almost anyone can find some relation to! They are beautiful and real!
