If I could, I'd give it a 2.5 stars. I should clarify first that I realllllly love other books by Abby Glines, (and I also believe I just read somewhere that this was the first book she published) so its not easy for me to admit to disliking this book. But if I'm being honest, this one didn't do it for me.... at all.

This book hooked me from the beginning and is one of the first books in several months that had me staying up late at night to read (sacrificing sleep is a big deal for me). The first half of the book is 5 star worthy and it wasn't until the last third of the book that I dropped my 5 star ranking. I feel like the author wrapped things up to "nicely" and I would have been very happy if she had not made every story line end like a fairy tale. I began the Sea Breeze series after reading the Vincent Boys series. There is a stark contrast between those boys and Breathe. I knew this going into it, so my expectations for some steamy, drama-fest were low. I had recently met Abbi in Chicago, and purchased Breathe and she did tell me that it was her most innocent book, and was most certainly YA. I had recently met Abbi in Chicago, and purchased Breathe and she did tell me that it was her most innocent book, and was most certainly YA. She did also tell me that Because of Low had more steaminess, and to hold on because While It Lasts would be filled with it! That being said, I knew all this going in, so I felt like it was all ok with me.

Breathe focuses on Sadie White, high school girl with negligent mother. She has to spend the summer working for Jax Stone, teen rockstar and all around heartthrob because her mother is too pregnant to hold a job. Of course, as you can imagine, Jax is smitten with Sadie. He likes that while she knows who he is, she is by no means interested in falling at his feet. She makes him feel normal.

There’s also Marcus Hardy, who I fell in love with, and was soooo rooting for (although, in the end, I’m happy it turned out the way it did, because he meets his match in Because of Low). Marcus cares for Sadie and worries that Jax’s lifestyle isn’t something she can handle. And that Jax doesn’t deserve her. Unfortunately, though, that isn’t always enough to get the girl.

The story was sweet, and a little cheesy at times, but the writing was good and concise, and it was, if nothing else, a stellar introduction of Marcus’s character. I give this book 3.5 stars, which does make me sad because I LOVE ABBI GLINES, but I do know that she’s re-releasing this book in May 2013, with more steam, and some of Jax’s POV. I think that will certainly help beef up the storyline and I look forward to reading it. PS – don’t let the cuteness stop you from reading…the series as a whole is so fantastic, and this is just the start of amazing characters. I have read a couple Sea Breeze Series books by Abbi Glines and I love her writing in each one. Although its a bit dreamy and unreal its emotional and fun. You can read books in this series without reading others, although they have some common characters, it is not a to be continued type.
I didn't realize this one was her debut novel. For a debut, it is good, and give it 4 stars.
