In the shore town of Sea Breeze, Sadie discovers that fame is nothing in the face of passion. A steamy read from bestselling author Abbi Glines.

Sadie White’s summer job is at the beach, but she won’t be working as a lifeguard. Since her mom is pregnant and refuses to work, Sadie will be taking over as a domestic servant for a wealthy family on a nearby island.

When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. If Sadie were normal—if she hadn’t spent her life raising her mother and taking care of the house—maybe she’d be excited about working for a rock star. But she’s not.

Even though Sadie isn’t impressed by Jax’s fame, he is drawn to her. Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax, but he fights his attraction: Relationships never work in his world, and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. Yet as the summer stretches on, Jax’s passion leaves him breathless—and Sadie feels like the only source of oxygen.

Can their love overcome the disparity in their lifestyles? One breath at a time, they’re going to find out…

This book is completely ridiculous. I don't mind some amount of cheesiness, a lot of YA books have some bits, but here I wasn't sure whether to cry or laugh out loud, every page was drooling with lovesick babbling. The characters, the setting, the way they talk, none of that felt REAL for a single second.

It was light reading, there weren't any particularly boring passages but it lacked any truth in it. I know that when you read fantasy there is the supernatural element that doesn't make it real as well, but underneath the surface is supposed to be "some deeper message or thought" usually slightly pushed away by the romantic plot and whatever. But in contemporary fiction where there is no fantasy background to distract you there should be more focus on the characters and you should take something out of the story. Literature is there to entertain, but also to educate or give you some sort of advice that you can take with you and even apply in a situation you might be in now or one day. Breathe was only telling you a fairytale of a Hollywood teenage film. Sweet Cinderella-ish girl is rewarded for her harsh life by meeting the prince charming, who is there to rescue her.

I quite enjoyed The Vincent Boys, Glines's other book that she wrote after this one, but this one was disappointing.

The more I sit on this book and think about it, the more I've discovered that I really didn't like anything about Breathe and that rounding up to 2 stars was my way of being nice and not completely trashing the book. After time, I started to realize that there was nothing about these characters or story which appealed to me (other than Marcus). Maybe it's because I did actually end up enjoying the following book in this series Because of Low (which proves I'm not in any sort of anti-Glines camp), I feel less guilty about coming back and down-rating this one after the fact.

*Original Review* 1.5 stars. I wanted to try this author in another genre to see if my issues were somehow related to the paranormal theme of her Existence trilogy.

I think Abbi Glines comes up with great concepts/ideas. She even has promise as a storyteller, if you're looking for light and simple stories. If she could figure out how to write a romance without adding in copious amounts of nickname usage and cringe-worthy terms, I would probably find myself more appreciative of what she's trying to do. Obviously, she's not doing everything wrong, considering this is the second book I've picked up by her. I'll probably still continue reading the Existence series, even with my laundry list of complaints. There is some part of me that is trying to connect here, yet I couldn't begin to tell you why. I just know that I see promise in this author and keep hoping to see the potential come to fruition. It's as if I'm standing on the outside of a very cool house and I'm fumbling with a huge ring of keys, hoping to find the right one to fit the door's lock.

I saw Breathe mentioned in another review as a type of Cinderella story and to this, I will agree. The poor, hard-working girl meets her handsome prince, who rescues her from her dull existence. The story was a cute retelling in that aspect. I like rock star stories, so it was a no-brainer that I'd want to try out Breathe.

If about 10% of the book had been cut (mainly the female's self-bashing and some of her interactions with Marcus, even though I liked Marcus as a character) and a few of the flowery sentiments reigned in, I might have liked Breathe...well, at least a little bit more.

This is what knocked the rating down for me :

"You're my...air."
I frowned at him. "Your air?"
He grinned. "Well, girlfriend seems to be too shallow for what I feel for you. These past two weeks it's been as if you control my breathing."

The lips of the only boy I would ever love touched mine.
(How old are you again? Get back to me in 10 years on this.)

"How can taking away the reason my heart beats be good for me?"

I don't think I need to clarify why most of those statements made me feel awkward. Mainly it had to do with the age of the characters, but I'd also note that there are ways to show intense love through action and interaction without having to resort to declarations of how someone is your sole reason for existence, which feels sappy and melodramatic. "I love you" gets the job done, btw. Or how about, "hey, life kind of sucks when you're not around. I've really missed you. Let's try working this out?"

Next up : Self-Loathing

For some reason, this bubbly girl liked me. Me, with no personality. (this was about the fifth mention of the protag's insecurity)

One common complaint that you'll see from a lot of YA readers is the frustration over girls who are :
1. Plain or lacking personality, yet they seem to have boys fawning all over them.
2. Are not plain or lacking personality, yet they seem to constantly harp on the fact that they are, so it's up to the boy (or other characters) to boost their confidence - repeatedly.

Either situation gets tiresome to read about. Yes, most teen girls have insecurities. I'm pretty sure we all know this by now. It doesn't mean we want to read about it over and over, especially when it's a subject brought up on more than one occasion in a book. Mention it once, then move on.

I should probably throw in the towel, but I'm going to keep an eye on this author. Am I glutton for punishment? Not necessarily. If her books were that painful to read, I wouldn't keep reading them. The stories are cute, they just happen to have some issues in the execution.

I'll admit that I originally picked up this novel because of the cover. No, not the cover it currently has, but the new cover it is going to be receiving. Unfortunately, I find myself regretting my decision to pick up this book and find myself wishing that I was not so easily swayed by my sense of vision. I got a little past the half-way point of this novel before deciding that I simply could not read another sentence of this book. I don't mean to be rude, but this story practically has nothing working for it. The writing is grating, the plot is cliche and overused, the story fails to keep my interest, and the characters are far from "unique" and "different" as they are said to be.

Seventeen-year-old Sadie has had to grow up far more quickly than any other teenager her age. Her father is a married man who vowed to have nothing to do with her after her birth and she has recently moved to Alabama with her mother. Her beautiful mother, however, has fallen in love with the wrong man again and has gotten herself pregnant. Now, Sadie finds herself taking her mother's job working for the famous teen rock-star Jax Stone. Although Sadie keeps her distance from Jax, their attraction cannot be denied. Jax, who is unable to stay away from the beautiful blonde, eventually succumbs to his desire. Yet, things are not always as easy as they should be and sometimes, you need to take the hard path to keep your love.

My issues with this novel start from the very first chapter. I don't know if this is Glines first novel, but her writing grated on me far too much for comfort. First and foremost, she failed to employ the show-not-tell method. Instead she used the tell-not-show method which I loathe. I was constantly being barreled with people telling Sadie how different she was, how unique. Every now and then someone would tell Sadie how beautiful she was and she'd act completely surprised and tell them that she was just average and didn't have any personality to which they'd reply that she had a wonderful personality. Perhaps I could have dealt with this if it happened once, or maybe even twice, but this dialogue just became far too redundant for my liking. Plus, Sadie fails to live up to the adjectives she is known for. Although she tries to stay away from Jax Stone, she ends up being just like every other girl (or rather every other YA female protagonist) and falls in love with him by Chapter 6! Furthermore, all the qualities that supposedly made her unique, really didn't. I know at least fifty girls, myself included, who share the same traits as Sadie yet I haven't had people come up and tell me that I'm so different and special! This, of course, leads me to the conclusion that the only reason Sadie gets the attention she gets is because of her gorgeous features that she denies having. At one point she refers to her legs as "skinny sticks" yet all the guys claim that she has the "best" and "most curvaceous" legs in town. I get that Sadie is modest and naive, but there is a certain degree to humility. With Sadie, it just felt as if she was fishing for compliments and I wanted to smack her for coming off as vain and conceited when I was constantly being told by all the characters that she wasn't. I'll make that decision for myself thankyouverymuch. =P

Sadie wasn't the only character I had a problem with though. Jax Stone, teenage rock-star extraordinaire, was equally, if not more, irritating than Sadie was. The first, and only, time that Jax and Sadie meet before Sadie falls in "love" (actually lust) with him, Jax is kind to a nine-year-old girl who just lost her father in war. Sadie, like any normal human-being, is moved by this. However, Jax is surprised because he's never known that a girl might like him for his kindness towards young girls. Um, excuse me? I can count on one finger the number of women who are not attracted to kind men! (In case you were wondering, the one finger was for Bellatrix Lestrange). To have Jax, who is constantly being fawned over by girls around the country, tell Sadie that he didn't know this was just a tad bit too unrealistic. Plus, he tells Sadie that her finding him attractive because of his kindness makes her unique! See where I'm coming from? It isn't true, it doesn't make her unique, and it makes you a stupid dolt for (a) saying that and (b) not knowing it's true! Plus, Jax's entire relationship with Sadie was based off of one thing: appearance. Jax looks at Sadie, Sadie is beautiful, Jax wants Sadie, Jax always gets what he wants, Jax tells Sadie she smells nice, Jax tells Sadie she has pretty hair, Jax enjoys kissing Sadie, Jax wants to flaunt Sadie off so other guys will know she's taken, Jax is being a possessive a-hole! Seriously, I hate relationships where a guy is possessive and clingy. I'm not saying it's not nice to have a guy who gets jealous sometimes or who wants to be seen with you, but Jax was taking it to an extreme. Furthermore, no one seemed to call him out on it! Jax's housekeeper even tells Sadie that she should have called him the one time she happened to be late for work because she was with her pregnant mother in the hospital! Uhh...what? Jax and Sadie weren't even officially dating at this point, she didn't have his number, and he was out of town when she left for the hospital. But, no matter, just call Jax because he needs to know where you are 24/7. Christian Grey much? =.=

Honestly, this book was boring, dull, and just plain irritating. Unless you like possessive relationships, insta-love stories, cheesy romances, and lots of useless dialogue that doesn't actually explain a character's personality, I would not recommend this to you. I think the best part of this novel is having finished it, or at least part of it. Now, I can actually breathe (with relief from not having to read it anymore)! ;)

Clear case of Mary Sue-ism and taking the templates of Twilight's Bella and Edward into the world of "rock 'n roll".

Bella Sadie was gorgeous but felt she was dull and not worth anyone's notice, and she was the grown up, her mother was hopeless about paying bills and remembering to use condoms. She also had less personality than a stale Ritz cracker that you find covered in dust bunnies and cat fur under the couch during spring cleaning, and about as much appeal (to me at least). Her speech was wooden and completely unbelievable. The girl didn't even use contracted words for the first half of the book for fuck's sake.

Edward Jax was perfect in every way but tortured over his inability to shield his lady love from the bad things in his life. Everyone thinks he's untouchable but all it takes is one quiet girl to capture his attention and WHAM! he's fallen into insta-love with her. Because she sees the real him. Naturally. And he proceeds to claim to have her best interested at heart (while he spends the first two weeks stalking her from his bedroom window), then making a public display of their relationship and acting all surprised when shit hits the fan. There's even a near-catatonic shut down when he breaks up with her where she doesn't eat or drink or sleep for days until Jake Marcus, aka the guy-friend-who-is-also-in-love-with-Sadie-and-repeatedly-tells-her-that-her-boyfriend-is-not-good-for-her, comes to her rescue and pulls her out of her misery. And let's not leave out the hospital stay where Edward Jax has to bring Bella Sadie out of her coma by promising to stay with her forever.

If you're looking for barely disguised schmoopy Twilight fanfic without the paranormal element, you'll adore this. If you're looking for a well-written teen romance peopled with characters who have more than two dimensions and are capable of rubbing a couple of brain cells together, I suggest skipping this.

Seventeen year-old Sadie White just moved from Tennessee to the Alabama coast with her mother. Her mother, who she refers to as Jessica, is very pregnant by a loser-du-jour boyfriend. Sadie's mom refuses to work anymore, so Sadie has no choice but to try and take over her mother's job as a domestic servant in a swanky mansion. Little does Sadie know that this is the home of the very famous, drool-worthy, Jax Stone, the teen-heart-throb singer. Normally, they wouldn't hire a teenage girl to work for fear that she was some star-struck stalker, but Sadie proves herself and is hired on. Sure, she knows who Jax Stone is, but she's got bigger things to worry about than swooning over some spoiled teen rock-star. Sadie doesn't want to lose her job and the only source of income she has, so she stays completely neutral around Jax. When she's first around him, Sadie barely makes eye contact. This is a little hard to do when Jax openly stares at her. You see, Sadie has inherited her mother's stunning looks, a fact she is completely unaware of. Jax is immediately drawn to Sadie, she's so mature for her age and isn't affected by his persona. But Jax is only there for the summer and he knows what his lifestyle does to people. So Jax tries to stay away from Sadie and fails miserably. This is especially hard when Jax sees Marcus, one of the servers, taking Sadie under his wing and getting close.

I adored this story. I just was gaga over Jax! He ended up being such a sweet-heart, sweeping Sadie off her feet. She couldn't help but fall for him. Jax was never judgmental over Sadie's mom. He tried to make Sadie comfortable and not insult her situation in life. Sadie was such a good and kind girl with a big heart. I can't believe all the things she put up with her mother. I really wished Sadie would've called her mom out on her behavior! She was a self-centered, horrible woman! I can't imagine a mother having her daughter buy her condoms, remind her to use them, and still manage to screw up. I could go on, and on, and on! I literally wanted to smack this mother!

I really liked all the secondary characters. First and foremost, Marcus, the college-student hottie, working there over the summer, you can't help but feel bad for him. Then there's Ms. Mary, the head of the house staff. She is like the mother Sadie never had, so kind and loving (I teared up a little at the end because of her) and Mr. Greg the elderly gardener.

The last 20% of this story was a little bit of a roller coaster. I wanted to throttle someone one minute and then I was swooning the next. For the most part, this was an all-around feel good book. Maybe a little on the predictable side, but it leaves you with a smile on your face. I highly recommend reading Because of Low right after this. It's a sequel to Breathe. It centers mainly on Marcus, but Jax and Sadie are in there too. Don't pass it up, it's all kinds of HOT!!

Breathe by Abbi Glines is the first book of the new adult contemporary romance Sea Breeze series. Sadie White finds herself having to take over her mother's job and bring in the money to take care of both of them with her mother pregnant. Sadie goes to the mansion her mothers works at to begin work and finds she is working for Jax Stone, a hot teen rocker. Of course this leads to Sadie and Jax being attracted and starting a romance. I actually liked Sadie in this one, couldn't help but feel sorry she was pushed to be the adult and mother her own mother. It also touches on some very real issues towards the end so I thought this one was good overall.

Yet another YA romance that has managed to garner far more positive reviews than it deserves. I don't expect much from these books, but sympathetic characters are kind of important, and the only characters I could bring myself to sympathize with at all were the peripheral characters (NOT Marcus, I didn't like him much, either). Ms. Mary was sweet and unassuming and the gardener (forgot his name already) could have been amazing, but he was underutilized.

Sadie is a young girl who's had to grow up fast. Her mother is a former-beauty-queen-turned-young-single-mother who apparently hasn't managed, in 17 years, to care for anyone other than herself. Not even her own child. Now she's pregnant again and Sadie, on her first day of summer break from high school, must take her mother's place as housekeeper at one of the rich houses. Sadie manages to earn her place on the staff and quickly discovers that it is the family home of teen heartthrob rock star Jax Stone.

The author continually shoves in our faces the fact that Sadie is "mature for her age", but having a mature work ethic, bitter outlook on life, and self-proclaimed aversion to rock stars does not make a girl mature. In most important ways, Sadie is no more mature than any other teenage girl, and in a few, she is even less mature than her peers. She is naive, gullible, and far too innocent. I quickly grew tired of her uninteresting statements, her moping, her petty jealousy, and her constant indecision.

Jax Stone is the modern YA cliche'; rich, devastatingly hot, oh-so-sweet....and let's not forget, creepily obsessed with Sadie. I can't get over how behavior like his is praised in some love stories while simultaneously being repulsive and oftentimes illegal in reality.

The one-liners in this particular romance far surpassed my expectations, however. While I was expecting some cheese, I had no idea how often I would be fighting my gag reflex. They're the kinds of lines that, were they spoken to me (no matter who was speaking them), I would roll my eyes, laugh, and move quickly away.

The romance was, predictably, based primarily on physical attraction. There are some moments, here and there, where it would appear Sadie and Jax were falling for each other for other reasons, but these are never fully explored. The main reason for Jax (aside from how much he likes Sadie's looks) is that she's "different" from any of the other girls he's ever met. "Different" in this case apparently means nothing more than that she's a normal teenage girl, not some rich, pampered starlet. I have a revelation for him; there are millions of those all around the world.

Its unrealistic portrayals, sappy, nauseating dialog, unresolved plot points, convenient write-offs, and unsympathetic, shallow characters made this yet another disappointment for me.

*Re-read December 2015

This is the first Abbi Glines book that I've read. It's nice to re-read this book only in its updated version. Now, it is told in dual perspective (the first edition is told only in Sadie's perspective) and there are additional scenes that leans more on the "New Adult" side (the old version is more of Young Adult because there's no "intimate" scene on it) which I find better because it matches the rest of the series.

As always, it's a guilty-pleasure read and you can read this in one sitting.

Sadie White had to grow up fast. Her mother has never been one to act like an adult. It's Sadie's job to look after her. Pregnant with her second child, Jessica isn't about to own up to her responsibilities. However, someone has to pay the bills and sending Sadie to work in her place seemed like a good idea.
Working as a domestic servant for a wealthy family, Sadie never in her wildest dreams expected it to be the house rockstar Jax Stone spends his summer at, trying to escape his hectic lifestyle.
He soon starts showing interest in Sadie, for she's like no one he's ever met before. Can their growing love withstand the fact that their lives couldn't be more different? Jax is adored by millions, while Sadie never even had friends. Her world revolves around her demanding mother's needs.
I was in the mood for a sweet YA romance and Breathe seemed to be the perfect choice. Unfortunately I soon came to realize that I was wrong in assuming so. It didn't take me long to develop a fierce hatred of Sadie's mother. No child deserves to have a father, who isn't in the picture - not giving a crap - and a mother, who has no qualms about taking her kid's childhood away. I didn't understand how Sadie could still love her. I had such a hard time believing it. Sure, she's her mom, but surely I'd become resentful and bitter. I was siked to read this book. The story sounded awesome. I even expected a few corny clichés and was prepared to enjoy a dreamy romance. Bummer that the hero's name was the only thing I liked about him. I'm a sucker for blue eyes, but not so much when attached to an arrogant ass and that's the best way to describe Jax. What probably should've appeared gentlemanly, I found appalling. He was aloof and overly confident. His hoity toity way of speaking drove me up the wall. It was creepy.
Once he began spewing confessions of love I was done. Don't get me started on these awful song lyrics. Can you say sleezeball? He wasn't sweet, let alone perfect boyfriend material - no, he seemed to be obsessed with Sadie, rather than what I'd call being in love. Sadly, there IS such a thing as too much fluffy romance. The worst, I fell head over heels for another character. Marcus, too, worked as a servant for the Stone's and befriended Sadie right away. Such a sweetheart! He made her feel welcome from the very start. If the roles had been reversed - if Jax had Marcus' personality - we would've been talking 5 stars. The way it was made no sense to me. Marcus as opposed to Jax wasn't laying it on thick and made sure to be a good friend. I felt beyond bad for him. The poor guy fell in love with Sadie, but his feelings weren't returned. They would've made a sweet couple. Reading this book, and I’m so sorry to have to say this, I often fought a gag reflex and was left frustrated. I'm kind of surprised that so many readers gave it a good rating. It might have something to do with the fact that I’m not a teenager anymore. Maybe it is the perfect read for a 14 year-old? I really couldn’t say. I did like the general idea of the storyline and of course Marcus the good friend. 1.5 stars to Breathe by Abbi Glines.

Beware of Spoilers!

Started off really great but lost steam somewhere in the middle. A ton of melodrama and some very teenage feelings/thoughts on love sort of killed the depth factor for me. The end left me a little disappointed with regards to how Sadie's loser mother spent her entire motherhood leaning on her daughter for support but never had a harsh word said to her about it. I'm all about the bad guys having lessons taught, and while she wasn't exactly a villain, she was far from the supportive mother that she should have been. Anywho...okay New Adult. My first Abbi Glines. I'll give the next a go. Marcus was a great guy so I'm interested in his story.

This book stayed in my to-read list for a long time I guess. It’s been time I put it out and see what it hid. In fact, I didn’t really want to read it. But then I told myself “Oh, come on! This is Abbi Glines! You won’t regret it!”
So I instantly got the book and read it. Even stayed up all night to finish it.
And I am so happy I did!!
I have two reviews waiting to be done but I am going to write this one first since I MORE than ADORED this book <3

The Cover:

To be honest, I didn’t like it. The two versions. I don’t know why.
Plus, in one of the cover, the girl doesn't even have curls so...
C(However, I find the nex cover totally EPIC!!)

The Content:

The Storyline

Jax Stone was a rock star. A super star! A talented guy with a sexy grin known all over the world. Girls would die for him. They were fascinated by him, had his posters all over their bedrooms and could do anything to get his attention.
Jax was exhausted of his life style so, in order to escape the crowd, he took a summer break and headed somewhere no one knew he was; his big house in the island named Sea Breeze.

In this house worked Sadie, a physically teenage girl and mentally adult one, who took her pregnant mother’s place in order to make money.
She had never known she was going to work for the rock star, Jax Stone. When she knew, she was surprised but she didn't care. In fact, she has never been a fan of him.

But then, they met and… BOOOM!!! Love at first sight!!
She became his air and he became her reason to breathe. (I, now, understand the title of this book!)
Their worlds were different but they managed to get through it, with the power of love.

There, in the house, was also a guy in the staff. He was named Marcus and since he saw Sadie, his mind has been blown away! However, Sadie only considered him as a friend. And he was. He has been a great friend to her, despite his feelings.

What it felt like?

OMFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFG!!!
THIS IS AWESOME!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!! THIS IS CRAZY!!!

AHHHH!!! Abbi Glines, why did you kill me? Or, should I say, kill me again.

I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I even jumped in my bed. I almost had a heart attack since my heart didn’t stop making that thunderous sound all night long! I’m in love! In love with that book!!

I'm such a hopeless romantic! COME KILL ME PLEASE xD

I was fascinated by how their love was deep. How they turned each other into new persons. I hated to see them suffer from their worlds' differences. I was eager to see their grief end and to see them together again. But then, when the story came to an end (Happy end, of course!) and the book was over, i felt like a part of my heart went with it..

Thoughts about the author:

Abbi!! WHY SO AMAZING?

I so loved your writing style when I read The Vincent Boys but now… OMG! I could even worship you, seriously.

I swear she has a special thing with love triangles. She relates them so well.
In fact, she has a special thing with love in general. She has that intense way of telling how lovers are bound to each other. What she writes is always beautiful, deep… And when she talks about her ‘lovers’ getting separated, her words only make your heart break and you can’t help but cry.

Remark: It’s stupid but I noticed that she used a lot of the word ‘frown’ in that book! Excuse me if I say it too loud xD

Characters:

Sadie, She was strong. Really, really strong. Strong and responsible. What she endured wasn’t easy but she still fought and tried to take care of her irresponsible and carefree mother (Who, by the way, irritated me so much), then of her little brother. She fought so much that it almost cost her her life.

She also was unique! Everybody in the house where she worked loved her. Thus, she found a new family, a shoulder to cry on, a wing to protect her and, most important of all, the love of her life.

She actually wasn’t like other girls of her age that were all obsessed by music stars (Jax Stone, actually.) She never thought she could be one. However… she grew herself an obsession toward him, but not in the same way! She turned from the stars-are-bullshit-and-Jax-Stone-isn’t-interesting girl to the I-love-him-more-than-myself girl.

She could see through him and dug in his insides to finally find the real him. The sensitive, sweet, romantic guy encaged by his picture of selfish and shallow star. (That part kind of made me think of Ashton and Beau <3)

Jax, Super-Duper-Awesome Rock Star! He was the idole of most girls world wide. He wasn't accustomed to girls in the kind of Sadie, that's why she totally cast a spell on him the first time he saw her. She turned him into a lovesick puppy !

He was so cute with her! He had made lots of sacrifices to keep her. And all his romantic actions! Ahhh!! All that made me melt! That's what i love about him.

There's also something fun about him; he has a strong sight! Or a super power, i don't know! Whenever she blushs or shivers, he sees/feels it! What kind of sorcery is this? xD

Marcus, Marcus Hardy! I read a lot about him. About how all girls that read this book fell in love with him. And while I read it, I was trying to figure out why. And I didn’t get it! Maybe it's because he was college guy? xD

I don’t really like that guy. I can’t deny the fact that he was gentle and sweet with Sadie, that he stayed beside her while she was suffering but his obsession toward me really annoyed me. Like he always sought for a flaw in her relation with Jax to tear them apart, like he searched a bait to make her his. Get over it, man!

Anyway, I am going to read this next book which is about him and I hope I’ll like him now he’s interested in a girl not already taken.

Conclusion:

The book was, indeed, really great. Way beyond my expectations.

Now, it's time to get started with Because of Low ! YAAAY! So eager!!

This book is bad. Really bad. It's every YA romance novel cliche wrapped up into one with really poor writing and really boring characters.

The whole Cinderella trope is always fun when done well - I don't even mind that it's a cliche. Disney channel seems capable of making a zillion teen remakes of Cinderella that are cute and fun. This book falls totally flat though.

Sadie is the Mary-est Sue of Mary Sues. She is drop dead gorgeous, but doesn't realize it. She thinks she has no personality (and she's right), but all the boys fall all over themselves trying to get her attention. Her awful selfish mom is pregnant and doesn't feel like working anymore, so she forces 17 year old Sadie to take over her job as a housekeeper in order to pay bills. Of course, the house she works at is the summer home of Jax Stone, teen rocker extraordinnaire.

As soon as Jax meets Sadie he's struck by how drop dead gorgeous she is. Of course, they fall in love instantly. By 40% of the way through this novel they're professing their love to each other. They have had literally three conversations. All three of these conversations were 100% about how Jax is a rock star and he's famous and he's in magazines and girls fall all over him. Not once during these conversations do they talk about anything else. But that's enough, they're in LOOOOVE.

33% of the way through:
"You're my...air."
I frowned at him. "Your air?"
He grinned. "Well, girlfriend seems to be too shallow a word for what I feel for you. These past two weeks it's been as if you control my breathing."

45% of the way through (their first kiss):
The lips of the only boy I would ever love touched mine, and I forgot where we were and everything else around us.

47%:
I've never met anyone who has seen past the star and found the real me inside (Keep in mind, they have had NO conversations about anything other than Jax being a rock star. As a reader, I know nothing about Jax other than that he's a rock star and is hot. That's it.)

73%: (The media found out about Sadie and to "protect" her, Jax dumps her.)
"How can taking away the reason my heart beats be good for me?"

80%:
Once I had accepted that I would never love someone the way I love Jax, it was easier to breath. He would always be in my heart, whether he wanted to be there or not. I just didn't have enough room for anyone else. He was my air, my soul, and the keeper of my heart.

82%
"He affects all my emotions. My happiness is connected to him."

Ugh! Unhealthy relationship alert! Why must these YA authors write this cheesy, unhealthy, co-dependent bullshit relationships? Why can't a female be independent? Why can't she be sad about losing a guy, but still realize that she can move on and find love again? Why do they write this idiotic "I'll die without you" types of love stories? They're not romantic and not real! Romeo and Juliet is a TRAGEDY!

Anyways.

At some point Sadie is riding her bike home and she meets the little sister of her friend Marcus. The girl talks to her and Sadie immediately thinks: For some reason, this bubbly girl liked me. Me, with no personality. Like, we all know she has no personality.

Sadie's mother. Where to begin. I have read a LOT of YA lately with terrible mothers, but Sadie's might be the worst. Sadie's mom is a big slut. So much so that Sadie has to keep her supplied with condoms (that she apparently doesn't use because she's pregnant again). Sadie has no contact with her father and Sadie's mom has no contact with the father of her unborn child.

Sadie's mom forces Sadie to take on all of the responsibility. According to Sadie, by 11 she was running the household. Now at 17, her pregnant mom doesn't want to work anymore so Sadie is now responsible for 100% of the bills.

When Sadie gets dumped by Jax she goes all catatonic a la Bella Swan. Sadie's mother doesn't want to work, or get child support, or get government assistance, she wants Sadie to take on the entire burden. Catatonic Sadie can't work, so her mom gives her this speech:

"Stop being so selfish and open your eyes to the facts, Sadie. We are about to have another mouth to feed, and no amount of your whining and wallowing in self-pity or pride is going to supply our needs. So stop it, and face the facts."

... Hypocrisy much?

Mother of the year has her baby and of course gets postpartum depression. Sadie has to go to school, work to pay bills, AND take care of her newborn brother all by herself. She eventually gets sick and hurt and gets hospitalized and is in a coma. This makes Jax come back and now he'll NEVER leave her because he CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT HER.

Abbi Glines is apparently hit and miss with her books. I thought Vincent Boys was just as bad as this. Existence was actually decent and gave me hope that Glines wasn't terrible. I have a few more of her books on my Kindle, so I will read them... but she definitely is not an auto-buy for me.

This book is just about cliches *rolleyes*

1. Girl who doesn't believe she's beautiful: check
2. Guy who everyone think is shallow and brat, but oh no, is just a lost soul: check
3. An impossible love story: check
4. A love triangle no-so-love-triangle: check
5. A friendzoned guy: check
6. Love at first sight (literally): check
7. A girl with an I-really-don't-think-you're-that-hot attitude: check

And I can continue... But I don't want to. This is just another silly love story, about a so-poor girl who has to take charge of her family, and falls in love with a big rock star. That's it.

So predictable, so corny, so stupid... so waste of time.

The only positive that I can recall is Marcus… and frankly, he could be just as predictable as the rest.

At one point I found myself comparing BREATHE to those older Regency romances. And while this is by no means a bodice ripper, it’s got the same feel to it. What with its poor girl who doesn’t think that much of herself, that and the fact that she’s got ‘the weight of the world on her shoulders,’ (yes, someone in the book actually says that about her.) Said weight is embodied mainly in a mother who wasn't all there but had the gall to put said girl down time and time and time again. Of course, eventually, our girl meets a boy who likes to save the day. But later still, the same girl meets the ‘master' of the house (and yes, they call him that too!) So, It’s Regency + YA = me, who is just not that into it. This is even if the start wasn’t all that was bad. In fact, it had me thinking of Scott’s Stealing Heaven. The interesting bits had me waiting for something better that might just have been somewhere around the corner on the next page.

I was wrong.

It wasn’t just the set of predictable characters that I found wanting. What did they both see in her when she saw so little? And what was with their intense 'I love you's' after a nanosecond of knowing each other? Plus the way they talked! Someone tell me I’m not the only one who picked up on the absence of contractions or the almost paragraph (or two) long questions and answers that went back and forth. God, they were long winded. Now on that note, I end.

I still might read the next one, though that’s mainly because of Marcus. Then again, I might not.

[Reto 2017, libro #4: Young Adult]

Rating Clarification: 3.5 Stars

When Sadie White moves from Tennessee to Alabama with her pregnant, single mom, she immediately begins to take over the family responsibility of keeping a roof over their head. That includes becoming the hired help for the famous rock-star Jax Stone. Sadie works hard to prove herself to her new boss Ms. Mary in the hopes that she’ll give her a chance to keep her job throughout the summer while her mom waits to give birth.

During her time at Jax’s house, she runs into him a few times and eventually the hired help and the rock-star strike up a romance that can't be denied but can ultimately put Sadie's job at risk.

After recently diving into The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines, I was eager to try the Sea Breeze series to see if her characters and plot development were just as engaging as my first reading experience. I’m happy to share that Glines definitely has a knack for creating a steadily paced novel that’s filled with an interesting cast and off-the-charts chemistry.

I really enjoyed the dual perspective between Sadie and Jax. Despite Sadie carrying the majority of the narrative, it made the storytelling more engaging to get Jax’s perspective from time to time.

The only element I had a small issue with was with Sadie’s age and her actions with Jax. It would have been nice to age this character not as a minor of seventeen, but easily making her one year older considering the fact that Jax was nineteen and well they get busy from time to time. It didn’t bother me enough to chuck the book, but why couldn’t Glines have made her eighteen?

Other than that, Breeze was an enjoyable and quick read with likeable characters and an engaging narration. I look forward to reading Marcus’s story because I really liked him in this book. On to the next installment!

This book was good not great, the characters were likeable enough but surprisingly it was a sub character that had my attention the most. Marcus - the best friend of Sadie, he was warm loyal and unfortunatly fell in love with the feelings not returned. The relationship between the two lead characters Jaxx Stone (famous rock star and heart throb) and Sadie white (hard working 'everyday' working class beauty) happened so quickly and didn't really ring true as an epic romance. The storyline and characters were all involved to make it interesting it just didn't wow me or make it interesting enough to grab my attention.
Just 2 stars for me this time.

This was a painful one and I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. It was just so unrealistic. So they fell in love after a whole two minutes of knowing each other and they didn't even have the excuse of eternal life, so very lonely Vampires blah blah, behind them. What 17 and 19 year old's talk like that? This is officially the first book I could not finish since joining Goodreads...Huzzah.

DNF

Well, I never guess that I will DNF Abbi Glines book. I read her other series, Rosemary Beach. I found it interesting. However with Sea Breeze series it is too juvenile. The story of modern Cinderella. A girl meet her prince charming. The prince charming is a rock star. Jax is suppose to be sweet and perfect. But I found him t be 1 dimensional.

Sadie is suppose to be a strong and independent young woman who thrusts into the world way too young. But she is also very 1 dimensional. There is no chemistry. No spark. Nothing between these 2. I am so bored listening to the audio book. So I hit DNF at 55%. I just can not continue.

No tensión sexual, no manoseo, no besos salvajes, no puro sexo.

This is what I imagine a Justin Bieber fanfic would be like if one were halfway decent enough to get published. But those would probably read a lot better. Every sentence spoken aloud by a character in this book sounds wooden and robotic. Nobody talks like these people. I could hardly get through the first chapter, it was so insufferable.

Here's some of what you can expect:
–“I get tired of the silliness and shallowness of girls. You’re like a breath of fresh air.”
"You are the youngest one here. I forget my old crowd has all aged just like me."
-"Your legs are sexy as hell, and your eyelashes are so thick and long that when you blink it looks like you are batting them, and it is very attractive."
-"I am actually impressed. I haven't met a girl with compassion before and I am intrigued." (Whoa, chill out bro.)

Is it weird that after awhile I began to read everyone's lines in robot voices? It's like a super long badly dubbed foreign language film, where the English is incredibly proper and uptight, and nobody knows how use a contraction. Also, the characters and everything they do and say are super lame.

Rating: 2- sappy and cheesy stars

I had this book for awhile now and even though I'm not a fan of Abbi Glines' books still, there's a part of me that wants to read hers anyways because her books are short and I love romance and sometimes her writing can be addicting but most of the time the plot or how the her story goes doesn't work out for me. Sometimes I read it because of the hot guys she writes and dang those hot guys are my weakness.

Hey I'm a girl in need of book boyfriends and her books have a lot of guys who can be book worthy of such but sadly even though the romantic rock star Jax Stone with his soft heart for kids didn't make me swoon. And gorgeous Sadie White and her virgin personality just ruined it for me. I hate it when girls are so naive about love, this book just turned out to be sappy and cheesy and it got a lot of eye rolls from me. No offense to those who are in love with this book, this just didn't work out for me. I think the younger crowd will go gaga over this kind of story but not me, Nah uh!

I'm rereading this because I Love Abbi Glines books and this is the NEW VERSION with steamy scenes and Jax's POV. Can't wait to see the changes:) Review to come once I finish the book :

Abbi Glines is pure GENIUS in my book. She can't go wrong. Breathe was my very first Abbi Glines book and I fell in love with Sadie and Jax's story. So I was so excited to hear that she was re-releasing it in a STEAMIER version and adding Jax's POV. Well I will just say this version did not disappoint. I am a total sucker for the male POV and I LOVED Jax's POV. I thought it added something to the original version. It was great to finally be able to read about Jax's thoughts and feelings. When Abbi says she is making a steamy version ....boy does she. I LOVED the YA version of Breathe because it was a clean and lovable story, but adding the steam factor totally took this book to NA status and I am not complaining. To me adding the steam makes this book fit in better with this series. I think it is great to have 2 version because if I am ever looking for that sweet and clean love story I can reread the original version, but if I want to read about Jax and Sadie but need a little heat with it I have the new version I can reread. That makes me one HAPPY girl :)

I would definitely recommend this book to any FANS of Abbi Glines's books and to anyone who LOVED the original version of Breathe. We all thought it was great when we got the NAUGHTY side of Beau in The Vincent Boys re-release, well I am telling you Jax's NAUGHTY side is just as good ;)

12/24/11:

Still just as good the second time around:)

This is the most vacuous, transparent book I have ever read. I have lost that many braincells that I am officially mentally retarded. I AM A VEGETABLE. I AM A POTATO.
Why did I read the whole thing? Fucked if I know.
Am I happy about it? NO. No I am not. I am displeased.
No, displeased is too nice of a word. But I can't think of an appropriate word because I AM A POTATO.
If I could get surgery to remove from my mind the hours I spent reading this horrible, horrible, sappy, douche-ville, cheese-ball of a book, I would.
Okay, I'm slightly over exaggerating (Slightly) but it just grinds my gears when books like this are so highly rated.

I don't know, it's like...
You know that feeling you get when you go to McDonalds and you order a cheeseburger and they muck up your order and they give you a Big Mac, and you’re all like
“No way, I just got upgraded to a Big Mac and they don’t even know!”
and you're so damn happy because now there’s three spare dollars in your pocket and you're pretty much a pimp. And It’s like the sun just came out on a rainy day and you're going on a picnic because what the hell? Why not? You're a spontaneous son of a bitch.
Well this book is nothing like that. This is the complete opposite of that feeling.

Rock star falls for a small town girl. Pfft.
While the storyline may have been plausible, a rock star falling for a heroine like Sadie was not. I mean yes, she was "gorgeous" and "beautiful", but she was the most boring, empty shell of a person, with high self-confidence issues and hardly any to no wit.
The talking dialogue was so ridiculously written, so awkward, and the characters said highly unrealistic sentences.
Jax (the rock star) and Sadie were saying they were in love other after they hung out like two times. It's so moronic I don't even know how to put it into words
I should have known not to read this book just by the look of the front cover.

Uck.
But I was told by some other potato brain that it was good, and I’m really trying to not be judgmental and do the whole “never judge a book by its cover.” thing.
Yes I am an idiot. A now brainless idiot. I am potato women. Queen of all potatoes.

Okay, I'm going to stop because this review is just getting ridiculous.

Anyway, the moral of what I'm trying to say here is: always, and I mean always, judge a book by its cover. And then listen to that judgement, not potato headed friends. Always.

I'm speechless. Ok, maybe not speechless, because I could talk 24/7 about this book. I LOOOOOOVED it! Abbi Glines did it again and she did it with style. It was amazing. It's the characters. It's the intense feelings. It's the story. It's the writing style. It's the atmosphere. Heck, it's everything. I loved Jax and Sadie's relationship. They're awesome. And the Stone Mansion staff was wonderful. A true support and family for Sadie. Breathe is what I'd like to call a sweet, fun and addictive light-read.

So yeah, go read this NOW! I highly recommend it and it's on my favorites shelf. But I'll warn you: Jax Stone is gonna rock your world! <3

P.S.: The lyrics of his songs are trully touching and swoon worthy. Oh, Jax, why don't you exist??
