An introduction to Thrall, and Mr Mason. I should have read this before reading His Black Pearl and His Black Beauty, it clarifies a lot. However, I have read this in retrospect of the next two books about Thrall, and in one way I'm glad I did as it makes the event and where Mr Mason comes in, who he is and his role far more understandable.

A very short and well written story which adds some insight into the island of Thrall first mentioned in His Black Pearl. The blurb is somewhat misleading since the POV is Leeta's and not Mr. Mason's. It is still free and worth reading if you've read His Black Pearl. ...more

Well, this was a very short read, but a short story packed full of punch. Exactly what I expected as I’ve already read the Black pearl and loved it.
This story made me feel sad. I loved the story of the human dog, who is clearly loved by her master, but she’s definitely suffering from a mental illness, the devastating loss of her first love. I loved how the author introducing us to the idea of Thrall, she dives straight into the sex, the fact the girl is a beloved pet, being used for her masters

Books like this always have to hit me at exactly the right moment. Any time outside that sweet spot and I'd probably rate a story like this closer to 3 stars. On the other hand this is the second story by this author I've read and the second I've rated highly. So .... maybe the author and I are just lucky as to when I try her stories.
