Bleak, yet thoroughly compelling story about Patrick, a young man who doesn't quite beling in the world and how he came to commit murder. Hyland's use of first person present tense puts the reader smack bang in Patrick's head and while it's not a great place to be, I couldn't not empathise with this character. His perceptions and observations are almost autistic. My only criticism is that Patrick is almost identical to the female lead in, How the Light Gets In. It'll be interesting to see if the ...more
