Psychologist Joseph O’Loughlin feels like his perfect life is unravelling faster than the clock is ticking. His friend Jock, a doctor, has just diagnosed him as having Parkinson’s Disease, and Joe is shattered. He closes in on himself, not talking to his wife, Julianne, making her unsure about him, and what is happening. His beautiful daughter, 8 year old Charlie, senses something is wrong…

Psychologist Joseph O'Loughlin was happy in his life; his wife Julianne and eight year old daughter Charlie were his life. Then he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and Joe's life spiralled. When Detective Inspector Ruiz contacted Joe regarding a young woman pulled from a canal, dead, and wanted his advice, Joe was initially pleased. But when he recognised the young woman as an ex-patient, one who had caused him problems, he made the decision not to mention it to Ruiz. It was a mistake. Be

I really enjoyed this as I read it, and suspect (no pun intended!) that I will continue to read more of this Joseph O’Loughlin series. However, it was actually fairly forgettable, since now - 6 days after finishing it - I can’t actually remember it in much detail at all!! But I do remember that it was a good read at the time and kept me turning the pages… It was a nice change, as I haven’t read very much of this genre lately.

I was keen to read a Robotham thriller, I'd heard so many praises of his writing. Delved straight into this one. Now I must say, I did NOT enjoy the first third of the book. I almost put it down and would have rated it poorly. There was a lot of poignant flashbacks reminiscing about a sweet old aunt that's been dead for a lot of years (why should I care?). The main character was under suspicion for murder and he was so unlikeable as a protagonist I was really hoping he would turn out to be the m

The beginning was interesting, the middle very slow & the ending quite thrilling.
I fail to see why it took everyone so long to think about the stepbrother. Realistically, from the first mention, as he started putting Bobby's life together, JO would have been looking for the brother. I suppose it's all of a piece, though, when JO acted so foolishly on so many occasions that I wanted to grab him by the lapels & shake him until his teeth rattled. None of the characters were particularly likeable, b ...more

Quite enjoyed this eventually but it took some time to get into. Didn't enjoy this as much as the Cyrus Haven series but it might grow on me. It was certainly a very well structured story with good characters. Got a bit frustrated by some of the action but it was very well concluded. Will persevere further with Joe O'Loughlin for at least one more.
