‘I don’t differentiate. Professor. You try to understand human behaviour. You try to explain it. Not me. I know we’re smaller than gorillas, bigger than chimps, worse than both of them and, for all our rationality, our rules and laws, our baser drives are still straight out of the jungle.’

So saith Detective Chief Inspector Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Cray to Psychology Professor Joseph ‘Joe’ O’Loughlin. They are on the same page as far as their goal – to catch and put away the bad guys (and girls) – b

Joe O’Loughlin’s title of psychologist meant he understood the human mind – mostly. But sometimes even he couldn’t work out what made criminals tick. And with “Mr Parkinson” in residence, ruling his life 24/7, he wondered how much longer he would have control. Parkinson’s disease had taken over Joe’s life gradually – his separation from the wife he’d loved for over twenty years was much quicker. But they were still friends; Joe still had hopes of reconciliation between them. His girls, fourteen ...more

Sienna, best friend of Joe’s daughter Charlie is the victim of a predatory school teacher - hitting too close to home, Joe and Ruiz set out to expose the teacher and bring him to Justice. Other threads emerge throughout the course of ‘Bleed for Me’ which eventually bleed (for lack of a better word) into one another leading to an ok ending which could have been less Hollywood and more dramatised. While at times fast paced, ‘Bleed for Me’ did have patches where the story lulled before picking up a ...more

Narrator, Sean Barrett, utterly sublime. Pacing and character nuances just right. Gah, Robotham! You fair put poor ol' Joe through the wringer. That lad is made of tough stuff. Confronting story lines and utterly deplorable characters. Thoroughly engaging. ...more

This is a consistently well done series featuring a psychologist who keeps getting pulled into crime investigations. The subject matter in this entry was dark but I never felt it became overly graphic and I always enjoy the supporting characters. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by Sean Barrett who did his usual excellent job.
