This is the kind of fantasy adventure you dream about. Strong characters in a well formed and intriguing world wrapped in a compelling story that constantly hurtles forward.

Is it predictable? Yes! Is it simple? Yes! Is it thoroughly enjoyable from cover to cover? Definitely yes!

By today's standards some of this story may seem a tad old fashioned, and that may turn off some. But that old fashion anchors so many fantastical elements so well that it become easy to suspend disbelief and enjoy it.

This book is amazingly good. I kept picking it up at around 10:00 at night and then getting a REALLY late night because I could not put it down.

While I'm not usually a big fan of books which are pretty much all action, there was enough character development and human interest touches to keep me interested. The random kissings at odd moments were particularly intriguing.

Oh, and at the end I was desperate for book two, so that's got to be a good sign. ...more
