Just finished the series, & I enjoyed it very much. I'm frustrated with the ending though - so much unresolved & new problems arising. Obviously the trilogy turned into a hexalogy along the way, but it's still annoying. We have a denouement between Axis & Gorgrael, but nothing is truly resolved, there are too many ominous rumblings for the future.

Why, why, why is the hero made to pay for his mistakes along the way, but the heroines never put a foot wrong. They are good, strong female characters, but when it comes to loving men they're useless & helpless? Yes, Axis should have told Faraday about Azhure, but Faraday was the sacrifice from the very beginning, why should he be continuously punished for doing what the Prophecy required, but no one else. I can see the author liked her female protagonists, but seems to have been ambivalent about the males - making them strong & talented like the women, but deeply flawed unlike them. Don't get me wrong, I like to see talented women, but I don't like the games they play against men, nor that they take no responsibility when things go wrong. I wonder if Douglass started a series about Axis & then decided she liked Faraday, Azhure & Rivkah better.

I'll need a break before continuing the series. This Axis Trilogy forms the beginning of The Wayfarer Redemption hexalogy.
