This is a new mystery/police procedural writer for me and one I’d like to follow up on. She left a hint to the second book in the Kay Hunter series and I’ll take the bait. I’ve read and loved many Scandinavian mysteries and “Scared to Death” is definitely lighter. Interesting and likable characters and a fast read. I’m fascinated that mystery writers like Rachel Amphlett can also find the despicable criminals she chose for this case.

An interesting beginning to this new series, it started off very well but lost it's punch in the middle. I like DS Kay Hunter & her DI, Devon Sharp, but the other characters were ciphers - I expect they'll be fleshed out more as the series develops (I see it's up to #11 now).
Some of the emotional areas left me a little unmoved: I didn't find DCI Larch's witch hunt believable, whether he truly believes Kay is guilty or not, & I think Yvonne's grief would have been a bit more tangible given the ci ...more
