Another beautifully written Celtic fantasy tale by Juliet Marillier. This is the first in a trilogy and sets up the story of two damaged people who must first learn to trust each other before they can heal their past. Complementing this is a Celtic story of magic, love and loss skilfully interwoven in the slow unwinding style that Marillier excels at.
And the cover is absolutely gorgeous!
I am looking forward to the next instalment Tower of Thorns out later this year.

Marillier’s heroines tend to undergo grim experiences but they still forge ahead. Dreamer’s Pool is a dark fairytale-like retelling mixed with a simple mystery for readers to unravel. Marillier doesn’t hold back when she dives into each character’s lives to see them grow or change at different turns. Blackthorn and Grim’s slow burn friendship is wonderful and challenging. A few of my favourite stories are built on unusual friendships. I can’t wait to follow more of their adventures.

"What manner of tale would the company prefer? A story of true love, perhaps? A tale of transformation? An epic adventure - journeys and battles and quests?"
"I enjoy a tale of magic and mystery"-
Magic and mystery this story was indeed.
Feels like the calming ripples on a pool of water, not quite sharing the secrets it holds beneath. But you know there is something there, and your heart is racing in anticipation on what you will see if you look just a little bit closer.

Everything about this book is attractive! The must-read author, the interesting blurb, and beautiful cover… I absolutely HAD to read it. It was a fine read and I quite loved this new world of Marillier’s. As a fan of mystery novels, I am appreciative of the mystery twist woven into a world of fairy tales.
The opening of this novel is somewhat typical to that of fairy tales: a mysterious stranger granting the impossible with conditions followed by a journey. The rest of the story is of a particula ...more
