I have been thinking of this book a lot lately since I have recently finished Iced.

I know that this series isn't a pure "romance" the way that Moning's Highlander series is, but this book is extremely romantic in the best sense of that word. I think that the best romances echo fairy tales and archetypical stores. For me, for example, Lover Awakened is the classic Beauty and the Beast story although there are many others.

To me, this book made me realize that this is a romance version of the sto I have been thinking of this book a lot lately since I have recently finished Iced.

To me, this book made me realize that this is a romance version of the story of Bluebeard. Now I may need to preface this by saying that Bluebeard was my favorite story as a child. I used to love looking at this pictures and reading it out loud to my sister. This caused her to have horrific nightmares and be mad at me for over 25 years. There is just something magical about the tension between curiosity and wish fulfillment. You can back-burner your morals and your self preservation instinct, but only for so long.

Barrons is such a dark and mysterious character who holds the ever tempting promise "I will treat you like a princess and make every one of your wishes come true if you never ask me about my life, don't open the secret door, and remain in the dark about what I do when you aren't with me." To me, it is really telling that after Mac finds the secret out, she stays and doesn't run. Barrons nature is very dark, and perhaps Mac had to go through everything to sully her purity so that she was able to understand someone who would do anything possible in order to survive.

I am also glad that Moning has said that she plans to return to writing about Barrons and Mac when Dani's arc of the story is over. I feel that there are still many secret doors left to open. (view spoiler) Although Bluebeard isn't traditionally a happy ending story, like the Disney version of Little Mermaid the ending is so perfect I feel like it must have been there all along. ...more

I really enjoyed this series and this final installation was everything it needed to be! She answered just about all of the open questions, the ending was satisfying and so much happens! Now I want to read the Highlander series as Moning brings those characters into the Fever world as well.

Done...finally and yes, I DEVOURED this book because it was that good. And, everything I hoped it would be. I won't admit any spoilers but if you haven't read it yet you don't know what your missing lol. If you so decide to pick up this book I will suggest you start from the very beginning at Darkfever. 5 stars! :-)
