This is my favorite Roman Mystery so far....

Roman Blood is the story of Gordianus the Finder, a fictional "private investigator" who lived in the last days of the Roman Republic. In this book, he helps the real life lawyer, orator, and politician Cicero solve a murder.

The novel works well both as a historical novel and as a mystery. Rome did not really have police investigators but it did have courts and it have an open political system. Evidence played an important role in both. Saylor definite
