I can’t express how much I loved this book. Character, world-building, setting, plotting-all is here that I expect and yearn for when I read a dystopian novel. Best yet, this is the first of a series and at least two more are projected! Veronica Roth achieves the goals that all authors of Dystopian aim for, but not all can meet.

Initially it reminded me of The Hunger Games. There are many similarities. Then aspects of the relationships reminded me of the Vampire Academy series. I tend to read decent stories fast, skip words and paragraphs to move the story along without missing anything critical - so because this was decent I did this. When I began reading I was bored, then I got into the intrigue and drama then the end seemed to drag.

I feel so underwhelmed by this book- it was okay.
The dystopian world, the plot and the characters were all okay-ish/ good but not great. Also, I can't make up my mind on Tris- I started off liking her gutsy nature but slowly that turned into callousness as she felt disgusted by the weakness of others but she does have redeemable points and it's good that she acknowledges her shortcomings. I got frustrated with Dauntless' fear to show sympathy- there is nothing cowardly about being kind at all!

The only way I can really describe this book is to say it's a fun read. It's not terribly well written, but it's entertaining none-the-less. Like any dystopian book that's come out in the last year or two, the author is trying to replicate the post-apocalyptic themed success of the Hunger Games trilogy. I thought the idea and concept behind the 5 factions was interesting, as well.

Easy/quick read, recommended in the "If You Liked the Hunger Games" section of the book store. It wasn't life changing, but it was good. I plan to read the rest of the trilogy.

This was another well done book. I liked the story, and the characters. I am looking forward to reading the next one in this series.
