A vivid portrayal of medieval life. Written so that I felt I was living in the era. I was even dreaming about it at night.

Shelves: bbc-big-read

Both myself and a friend have been working our way through the BBC big read books. On the whole we discovered we have similar tastes in what we enjoy and don’t enjoy. On this occasion I don’t think we are quite on the same page, she loved it, I’m a bit meh! The author has obviously done her research about the era, in fact she kept talking about windows and I thought they never had them back then surely, a little Google told me otherwise although slightly different to what we call a window now. I thoroughly enjoyed this read; the times were brought vividly to life without overwhelming detail, clothing, food and behaviour described just the right amount to truly let someone *see* what is going on rather than only have the vaguest outlines. The amount of research put in to make the tale realistic was excellent, and this is an incredibly well-done look into the life of Katherine Swynford.
