The story line was so-so. a couple goes to Nigera (such a wonderful tourist attraction I knoww!) to renew their relationship after the wife cheated on the husband, they save a girl by chopping off the wife's middle finger. So 2 odd years later this girl who was saved in Nigeria, just got out illegally from a dentention center to find her rescuers. yet the husband killed himself, so the wife has to deal with her, a son who will only wear a batman suit and only be called Batman, and her job.

Began with such beautiful prose I had decided by Chapter 2 this would be a 5 star book. Very ambitious book to have all the emotional levels play out in such a short book that there were parts that were not as stellar as the beginning.

I think, however, the choice of the publisher or author to write on the dust flap to keep the storyline secret is a disservice in that no one is talking about it.

This would be an excellent book for discussion and book clubs.

Compelling story about a 16 year old girl from Nigeria who runs away from her native Africa to save her life. Stows away on a boat bound for England; is found out and sent to a detention camp for 2 years. Story is told through Little Bee (main character) and a secondary character, Sarah, a British journalist.

A smattering of R-rated language from one character, and a fairly violent scene involving Little Bee, her sister, and Sarah.

Would make a good discussion book.

Don't know what to say about this book. At first I loved it - read 90 pages the first day, and I'm a slow reader. After that, I just lost interest and couldn't wait for it to be over. In the end, I just didn't like it. ...more
