This book has been written from a young lad's perspective, beautifully describing how the world looks like from a frustrated and sad teenager's eyes. J.D Salinger is unequivocal in his narration as the reader is taken through the highs and lows in the book.
Essentially, the book is about a troubled teenage boy who has become frustrated and cynical about life's most trivial things around him. He hates people who show off, he hates stupidity and he wants to prove to himself that he is independent.

Halfway into the book, I'm still wondering when the rye field is gonna turn up.

UPDATE:

There was, indeed, a field of rye in there, on page 206. This is where I began feeling more benevolent towards that boy Holden. I had started liking the story from the point where he and Sally go to the theatre right up to where he has a conversation with Phoebe ... that is, kinda liking it. Because, in general, I found it to be just another very annoying book about just another very annoying guy.
