Really this is more of a 3.5, but the general feeling I had after completing it caused me to round down rather than up.
At its best, Ready Player One is a lot of fun. The world (or at least the OASIS) is very vivid and entertaining. For the most part the story progressed at a pace that kept me engaged and interested throughout. It's peppered with so many pop culture references that just about every Gen-Xer, and most Millenials, will find something that makes them smile or pump a nerdy fist in the ...more

This is the best audiobook I've listed to in a long time. It's not perfect, and I don't play video games or know all the references, so I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I scrubbed my entire apartment to justify finishing it over the weekend. Definitely recommend!

I liked the twist at the end a lot though and suspect this will be a very entertaining movie. ...more

I would call this a four+. Knocking off a few points for a few too-long passages about nerd stuff that were detailed beyond my interest. But truly, a fantastic, engaging book. People kept describing it as an ode to 80's pop culture, but the comparison that would have gotten me to crack it open a little sooner would have been " a less-bleak Ender's Game."
