I wouldn't count myself as a huge paranormal fan [though I do enjoy it], but this may have turned me.

Told from Allie's point of view, we see her struggling for food and survival as she refuses to be Registered. A Registered is given food, in return for blood every week for the Vampires who run the city. But Allie's mother was killed by Vampires, and she despises them... Until she becomes one.

It causes her to flee her home, and she meets a group of humans. These humans are trying to find Eden- a place with no monsters. Allison joins them on their journey of discovery, meaning only to feed of them. But as she gets to know them, she likes them, and sucking their blood will be hard to do.

I really liked Allison. I've read a few reviews where the readers have been frustrated by her, but I thought she was a brilliant main character. Though I was really annoyed when she chose to become a Vampire. In a choice between death, I can understand her position, but she hated them so much, then she just... became one... I don't know, she's stronger than that.

Zeke... Zeke! Ah, he was perfect. I loved seeing him fall for Allison, and felt so sorry for him when she rejected him- though I understand that she felt she had to. Zeke thought about and cared for everyone, putting himself last. He's been raised to believe that Vampires are disgusting murderers, but he gives Allie a chance. He can't himself falling in love with her. It's so cute, but not rushed or forced at all, it seems so natural.

It's quite hard to explain my dislike for Jed, so I'm going to leave it.

Now I think about it, most of the first half of the story was a build up of description and not much action. But at the time, I didn't notice as I was too absorbed in it. It felt as though I was on page 50 one minute and page 150 the next, I was completely lost in the story. Though I do think that some scenes and parts weren't really needed in the story.

The cover isn't one of my favourites, but it fits the story well. I love the fact that the cover model is crying blood [which is, hopefully, edited...], just as Allie did. And that the word 'Immortal' seems to be glowing. The writing, text and colours all fit so well, I just don't really like model covers. That being said, I would stop to pick this up in a shop.

I'm so excited for the next book in the series, and I can trust that Julie Kagawa will do a brilliant job of writing it. Any writer with the ability to allow its readers to fall into a trance whilst reading their writing should be considered a genius, really.

Overall, an exciting read with lovable characters and a brilliant writing style. I loved The Immortal Rules and recommend that you read it! ...more

There was just nothing about this book that kept my attention. Nothing - not the setting, plot or the characters - that could keep me invested in this story. I read it, but I certainly will not be continuing with the series.

When I got this book, I thought oh boy, more vampires but this is much gorier, and absolutely no sparkling here. Kagawa does a good job of sticking to the traditional vampire lore but with a few interesting tidbits. It is set in a dystopian society where the vamps are at the top of the food chain and the humans are the meat, well the blood source. The Immortal Rules, the first installment in the Blood of Eden series, by Julie Kagawa took me by surprise from the beginning to the very end. I am fairly new to Kagawa's writing style and I was very pleased at the story that she created in her tome of a novel.

Despite not really getting into the Iron Fey series, I was pleasantly surprised when I read this book. I liked Allie as a main character, and I really want to see what she gets up to next.
