One of the strangest books I've ever read bordering between genius and weirdness. The 'hero' Ignatius Reilly must be one of the most unlikeable literary characters ever invented but you can't help but hope for his salvation and safety. He really is obnoxious,spoilt,self-centred and and annoying BUT the situations he finds himself in are so funny. Ummm... so... This book is chock full of the most aggravating, whiny, unlikable characters I've read in a while. And stereotypes. So. Many. Stereotypes. I get that Toole is a tragic figure and all, and he definitely had some writing talent, but is this Pulitzer material? I think maybe the Pulitzer people and I have vastly different concepts of a good story.
