I had read Hosseini's first book, The Kite Runner and enjoyed it. I came across a hard cover illustrated edition of A Thousand Splendid Suns for only $8 and couldn't resist the deal.
I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. It immediately turned into one of those books that I had a hard time putting down. By the author who wrote The Kite Runner. I loved that book so much, I requested this book from my library as soon as it was published. I really liked The Kite Runner. I would rate this 3.5 if possible. I only rank it less because I like it slightly less than Kite Runner, which I gave 4 stars. This story was not quite as compelling to me, and the ending was belabored. The skill of the author in presenting two differing female perspectives, however, was astounding and mesmerizing! This book made me furious about the treatment of women most of the time. I listened to the audiobook, and I don't think the narrator was very good with dialogue. If you have a choice, read instead of listening.
