This book is odd in that the happy parts involve the extinction of humans from the Earth - which isn't surprising given the title but I was still surprised by that fact just because I had never taken into account the sheer enormity of all the bad stuff we have done to our little blue planet. In an EXTREMELY detailed investigation, the author examines the question of what would happen to the planet if humans up and disappeared. It was certainly an interesting topic, and the author does a great job of addressing the issue from a number of different angles (bringing up contingencies that had not even crossed my mind, for example, the abandoned petrochemical industry, nuclear power plants, and human cemeteries).
