This is a tough one to rate. It took me literal months to finish, and if I'm honest, I did not read every single word of this beast. I was so not-invested until 60% through that I skimmed and skipped quite a bit. I didn't care what happened to the characters, I was completely over the casual racism (and also, who the hell was still saying "Negro" let alone the N word in 1990?), and I just hadn't found an element of the story that I really really had to follow to the end.
