I read this book very quickly over the course of a few days. The writing is very clear and concise. It is one of those rare books for me that fit the cliche description of "page turner that I couldn't put down". It's clarity and strength of voice is matched by it's complete heartbreaking nature. I cried several times while reading. It is worth it though and I would recommend it. ...more

I enjoyed the book a lot but made the mistake of seeing the movie before reading it.

Excellent writing - descriptions of Afghanistan are clear & powerful without being too wordy & tiresome. Story was good -- i'm a little tired of the secret child rape stories, but it was still very good. Looking forward to reading his next book!

The Kite Runner tells the story of two boys growing up in Afghanistan who live in the same house/compound but are from two different sects. One is looked up to, the other looked down upon. Several characters keep secrets that haunt them. It was interesting to learn about a culture I knew nothing about.

The farther I got into this book, the more I loved it. It just plain felt good to read something so real and tucked into neat little karmic circles. I also felt like I came away with a better understanding of a culture I'm admittedly ignorant about. ...more

I was suprised at how much I enjoyed this book. While I think it lacks a certain unique sparkle to make it stand out in international literature, I certainly found it both an engaging and educational story.

Somewhat of an anti-climax, after all the hype about this book. I found the book very readable, but it didn't leave a huge impact on me. I was craving for some more emotional depth to the people... ...more

Beautiful story. A little too much heartache at times, but growing up in Afghanistan probably leads to a lot of pain for a lot of people.

Finally read this to clear it from my Netflix queue. Such a depressing story. Thankfully it appears not to be an autobiography.
