The number of times I though "ugh, get a job Robert Maplethorpe" while reading this was in the dozens.

I've owned this book for months and for some reason kept moving it to the bottom of the to-read stack. Finally, this week I threw it into a bag of books that I was taking on vacation. A weird and engrossing journey through Patti & Robert's world and relationship. It was interesting to see how hard they worked at art, in recent years I have stayed away from it thinking it should happen organically - but maybe I'm just lazy...I was also surprised at how removed Patti seemed to be from herself in the writing, it was almost objective - and she was very forgiving of others, to a degree that I do not think I will ever attain.

what a story! and what an era to have lived through. and the love that they had for one another... just beautiful. sure, their relationship to one another was unconventional, but the love they had for one another is rare and to be cherished. to have someone supporting you unconditionally. through thick-and-thin. i'm just glad patti kept her promise and share her story with the world.

Somewhat interesting, but I suppose I would have appreciated the book more if I knew more about Patti or Robert in general.
